Mechanical Engineer, Engine Systems
Start the Best Work of Your Career at Boom
At Boom, we’re building the world’s fastest airliner—driven by a team that embraces speed, owns every challenge, and never stops learning. Our propulsion team is pioneering Symphony, a custom engine designed from the ground up for sustainable supersonic flight. To make it real, we need mechanical engineers who thrive on hands-on problem solving—designing, building, and testing the systems that make engine development possible.
In this role, you'll own the design and development of critical engine systems—whether that’s a gearbox, oil circuit, or fuel subsystem. You’ll take your hardware from a clean sheet through analysis, build, and test. If you’ve ever wanted to see your work go from CAD to the control room and play a direct role in firing up a brand-new engine, this is it.
Role Overview
- Design and develop engine subsystems and accessories, such as gearboxes, oil, fuel, or vacuum systems
- Own your systems end-to-end: from concept to design, analysis, build, and test
- Act as control room operator during ground engine tests, monitoring your systems in real-time
- Build models, assemblies, and detailed drawings in CAD to support manufacturing and assembly
- Create and execute test plans—including instrumentation, data review, and test iteration
- Collaborate closely with design, manufacturing, and test teams to deliver fully integrated systems
- Communicate findings and plans clearly across a multidisciplinary team
Ideal Candidate
- Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree (or equivalent experience)
- Strong grasp of engineering fundamentals, especially mechanical, fluid, and thermal systems
- Proficient in CAD for design and drawing generation
- Demonstrated experience with test planning, data analysis, and hands-on testing
- Clear, confident communicator who thrives in fast-paced, cross-functional environments
- Meticulous attention to detail and system-level thinking
- Deep sense of ownership—you’re driven to understand how things work, and make them better
What Will Set You Apart
- Experience with full product or test system lifecycle—from whiteboard to test data
- Background in aerospace fluid systems, mechanical systems or testing
- Operational mindset—you're comfortable with fast turns, ambiguity, and real-time problem solving
- Passion for sustainable aviation and the future of high-speed flight
