Loads & Dynamics Engineer
Start the Best Work of Your Career at Boom
At Boom, we're redefining what's possible in aerospace. From XB-1, our supersonic demonstrator, to Overture, our revolutionary commercial airliner, we’ve proven that small, high-performing teams can achieve ambitious goals through precision, innovation, and relentless execution.
We’re seeking a Loads and Dynamics Engineer to lead the development of static and dynamic aircraft loading for ground and flight maneuvers. This isn’t routine work—you’re not here to adjust parameters, you’re here to define them. You’ll build the tools, define the processes, and lead the analysis that ensures our aircraft are not only safe, but exceed performance expectations across all phases of flight.
This is a front-row seat to the future of aviation. You’ll work closely with aerodynamicists, structural engineers, systems engineers, and test pilots to predict loads and structural deflections across the flight envelope—helping ensure safe, reliable operations for crew and passengers.
Role Overview
As a core member of our fast-paced, multidisciplinary engineering team, you will:
- Lead generation of aircraft loads—including static (maneuver), fatigue, ground, and component external loads in accordance with 14 CFR Part 25
- Characterize static aeroelastic effects, such as divergence and control surface effectiveness
- Evaluate dynamic gust environments, flutter margins, and vibratory load cases (e.g., buffet, PSD gusts, Fan Blade Out, windmilling)
- Generate and validate unsteady aerodynamic models using industry best practices (e.g., PK/g methods, open-loop flutter analysis)
- Create aerodynamic panel models and calibrate with CFD or wind tunnel data
- Collaborate within Flight Sciences to define critical flight maneuvers, load alleviation strategies, and integration approaches
- Support aircraft ground vibration testing (GVT) and flight test activities
- Coordinate cross-functionally with disciplines such as mass properties, structures, and flight controls to ensure integrated design and analysis
- Provide technical guidance and leadership on system architecture, flight control design, actuation integration, and high-lift devices (e.g., spoilers, flaps)
The Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
- Proven experience in aircraft loads, aeroelasticity/flutter, dynamic, or fatigue analysis
- Hands-on experience with flight or ground testing (e.g., GVT, flutter flight tests)
- Deep technical capability in modeling, analysis, and verification throughout the aircraft lifecycle
- Proficiency in tools such as Python, MATLAB/Simulink, Excel, and familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering
- Expertise in NASTRAN, PATRAN, FEMAP, or equivalent finite element analysis tools
- Strong collaboration skills and a track record of leading complex, cross-functional engineering efforts
What Will Set you Apart
- Experience with FAA/EASA Part 25 certification, including technical discussions with regulatory authorities, compliance documentation, and certification strategy
- Expertise in finite element modeling, modal analysis, and custom tool development
- Demonstrated ability to drive complex technical programs through leadership, systems thinking, and alignment with airworthiness standards
- Demonstrates a strong work ethic and ambition, complemented by effective collaboration skills in a team setting
- Excels in a high-energy, independent, and challenging work environment
Why Boom
Boom is building something the world has never seen—a return to supersonic commercial flight. If you're driven by solving hard problems with bold vision and collaborative execution, this is your chance to make aviation history.
