Tech Lead, Autonomous Driving Platform

Remote

About Us

We are a fast-growing autonomous trucking company, building the future of safe and efficient freight transportation. Our platform team is responsible for the end-to-end tools that powers our self-driving truck technology—ranging from simulation engines and tooling, to metric systems, cloud computing platforms, truck operation scheduler, and HMI solutions. We are seeking a strong technical leader with a proven track record in C++, Python, and Go, along with full-stack expertise and cloud computing knowledge, to help shape the next generation of autonomous trucking.

Position Overview

As the Tech Lead for the Platform Team, you will work directly to provide technical direction, architectural guidance, and hands-on development for critical projects. You will own the technical roadmap for our simulation and testing tools, cloud infrastructure, operational platform, and HMI. This role combines strategic thinking with day-to-day coding and mentorship responsibilities, ensuring high-quality deliverables and alignment with overall business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Technical Leadership & Architecture
    • Drive the design, development, and deployment of our simulation/testing engines, metric systems, cloud infrastructure, and HMI platforms.
    • Define and implement best practices for system architecture, code quality, performance optimization, and security.
  2. Hands-On Development
    • Write and review production-grade C++ code; lead development efforts in Python and Go.
    • Contribute to front-end, back-end, and cloud-based services, ensuring seamless integration across the stack.
    • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, containerization strategies (e.g., Docker/Kubernetes), and scalable cloud solutions (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  3. Mentorship & Team Building
    • Guide junior and mid-level engineers, offering technical leadership, code reviews, and career development support.
    • Cultivate a team culture of continuous learning and innovation through pair programming, knowledge sharing, and regular feedback.
  4. Collaboration & Cross-Functional Coordination
    • Work closely with product managers, data scientists, and operations teams to define requirements and deliver features on schedule.
    • Coordinate with other engineering groups (e.g., Perception, Planning, Control) to ensure seamless integration within the autonomous trucking ecosystem.
  5. Strategic Planning & Execution
    • Contribute to the product and technical roadmap, balancing short-term deliverables with long-term scalability and innovation.
    • Evaluate and integrate third-party tools or services (e.g., cloud providers, simulation frameworks) to improve development velocity and system reliability.

Required Qualifications

  • Education & Experience
    • Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
    • 8+ years of hands-on software development experience, with a focus on C++ in a production environment.
    • Practical experience in Python and/or Go for back-end or tooling development.
    • Demonstrated experience in architecting and deploying full stack solutions (front-end, back-end, cloud infrastructure).
  • Technical Skills
    • C++ Expertise: Strong proficiency with modern C++ standards (C++11/14/17), concurrency, and optimization.
    • Full Stack Knowledge: Experience with TypeScript/JavaScript, front-end frameworks (React, Angular, Vue), WebSockets, and WebGL.
    • Cloud & DevOps: Proficiency in designing and operating distributed systems on AWS, GCP, or Azure, container orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.
    • Rendering & Graphics (Bonus): Familiarity with OpenGL, WebGL, image processing (OpenCV), and 3D rendering pipelines.
    • Autonomous Systems (Bonus): Experience with ROS or autonomous driving simulation frameworks.
  • Soft Skills
    • Proven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams, especially more junior staff.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working with cross-functional stakeholders.
    • Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and a passion for tackling complex technical challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in autonomous driving, robotics, or a related high-tech domain.
  • Familiarity with GPU computing, real-time systems, or large-scale data processing.
  • Experience with truck fleet operations, scheduling systems, and related operational tools.
  • Knowledge of building high-performance, real-time HMI/GUI applications.
  • Exposure to advanced simulation environments or frameworks specialized for autonomous vehicles.

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
