Summary

The Senior Manager, Learning Design is the functional leader of Learning Design Services (LDS), providing learning design expertise, people leadership, and operational oversight to deliver high-quality, scalable learning solutions across higher education and corporate clients.

The role leads and develops the LDS team, establishes learning design standards and practices, and oversees capacity, quality, delivery, and resource allocation. As the senior learning design SME, the Senior Manager provides guidance on complex learner-centered design practices that drive quality, innovation, and measurable learning outcomes. This role also serves as the senior learning design representative for partners and new business opportunities to shape solutions, support business development activities, and identify opportunities to evolve LDS capabilities and delivery models.

Responsibilities

Functional & People Leadership

  • Serve as the functional leader for LDS, setting priorities, standards, and expectations for the function.
  • Lead, coach, and develop Lead Learning Designers and Learning Designers, including performance management and professional development.
  • Build a high-performing, collaborative team focused on quality, delivery, and impact.
  • Ensure the team has the tools, resources, training, and support needed to succeed.
  • Lead recruitment and onboarding of learning design talent as needed.

Learning Design & Curriculum Leadership

  • Serve as the senior learning design and curriculum SME, providing guidance on complex and high-priority initiatives.
  • Translate institutional, business, and learner needs into effective learning strategies, curriculum frameworks, program maps, and development plans.
  • Establish and maintain standards for learning design quality, accessibility, consistency, and learner experience.
  • Guide the application of instructional design, curriculum, adult learning, and learner-centered practices.
  • Maintain a portfolio of LDS solutions that demonstrates quality, innovation, and value to partners.
  • Oversee LDS capacity, workload, prioritization, and resource allocation across active initiatives.
  • Ensure work is appropriately scoped, staffed, and delivered within established timelines, quality standards, and budgets.
  • Manage applicable program budgets and approved financial commitments.
  • Drive scalable, efficient, and cost-effective delivery practices across LDS.
  • Evaluate internal and external delivery models and resource strategies to meet current and future demand.

Partner Solutions, Innovation & Growth

  • Serve as the senior learning design representative for assigned partners, programs, and new business opportunities.
  • Partner with internal teams to translate needs into effective, scalable learning design solutions, including support for proposals, RFPs, POCs, and launches.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance LDS solutions, capabilities, and delivery models based on partner and market needs.
  • Lead innovation efforts, including the use of emerging technologies such as AI, to improve quality, efficiency, scalability, and impact. Translate relevant trends and innovations into practical tools, processes, and training that strengthen LDS capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, education, curriculum, educational technology, or related field required; master’s preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in learning design, instructional design, curriculum development, or related field, preferably in higher education, online learning, or corporate learning.
  • 3+ years of experience leading and developing learning design teams.
  • Deep expertise in learning design, curriculum development, adult learning, and learner-centered design.
  • Experience working directly with clients, academic institutions, faculty, or external partners.
  • Experience supporting solution development, RFPs/proposals, client presentations, or POCs.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to translate needs into effective, scalable learning solutions.
  • Knowledge of learning technologies, LMS platforms, and industry-standard authoring tools; experience with AI-enabled learning design tools preferred.
  • Strong communication, presentation, relationship-building, and influencing skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to travel as required, up to 25%.

This position is based full-time in one of our US-based Boundless Learning offices.
