In This Role
As a Senior Power BI Developer, you will design, build, and optimize scalable BI solutions that transform complex data into meaningful insights. You’ll partner with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to model data, craft dynamic dashboards, and ensure that analytical products meet performance, security, and governance standards.
This role requires deep technical expertise in Power BI Desktop and Service, proficiency in DAX and SQL, and strong communication skills to translate business requirements into data-driven stories.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Model Data:
Build star and snowflake schemas optimized for reporting; define relationships, hierarchies, and calculation logic. - Develop Measures and Calculations:
Create reusable DAX measures and calculated columns, using iterators, CALCULATE, FILTER, and time-intelligence functions for accurate insights. - Data Preparation & ETL:
Connect, clean, and transform data using Power Query (M) and Azure Data Factory (ADF). Profile data and reconcile results with source systems. - Visualization & UX Design:
Deliver interactive reports and dashboards with drill-throughs, bookmarks, tooltips, field parameters, and adherence to accessibility and design best practices. - Performance Optimization:
Monitor and improve performance using DAX Studio, VertiPaq Analyzer, and Power BI Performance Analyzer.
Manage dataset sizes and optimize model relationships and filter directions. - Security & Governance:
Implement Row-Level Security (RLS), configure dataset permissions, apply sensitivity labels, and align with organizational data privacy policies. - Power BI Service Management:
Publish and maintain reports in workspaces and apps, configure scheduled refreshes, manage on-premises gateways, and ensure dataset endorsements. - Testing & Documentation:
Validate measures, maintain naming conventions, changelogs, and user documentation, and perform peer reviews for quality assurance. - Stakeholder Collaboration:
Work closely with business users to gather requirements, create wireframes, and tell compelling stories with data through iterative delivery.
Required Qualifications
- 8–10 years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, or Data Engineering.
- Strong hands-on experience in Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.
- Advanced knowledge of DAX (iterators, CALCULATE, FILTER, time-intelligence).
- Proven experience in data modeling (star/snowflake schemas).
- Strong SQL querying skills (joins, CTEs, window functions) and data validation experience.
- Experience building ETL workflows with Power Query (M) and/or Azure Data Factory.
- Familiarity with Row-Level Security (RLS) and Power BI governance best practices.
- Experience with performance tuning, using tools like DAX Studio or Performance Analyzer.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Salary Range
Pay ranges vary based on multiple factors including, without limitation, skill sets, education, responsibilities, experience, and geographical market. The pay range for this position reflects geographic based ranges for Washington state: $100,000 to $110,000 USD/annually. The salary/wage and job title for this opening will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience and may be outside this range.
