Vice President, Payor/Provider

The Position:
The Vice President, Payor/Provider is a crucial member of a highly specialized group of experts who work on behalf of the company’s hospital and health system clients, leading them through high stakes, difficult, and sometimes contentious negotiations with their health plan partners. As Vice President you will serve as the lead communications expert on such engagements, driving research, formulating messaging & targeting strategy, and architecting communications programs specifically designed to support a client's negotiation strategy.
The Responsibilities:
Includes, but not limited to the following:
- Integrated Communications: an expert in all things integrated communications that allows you to guide clients through challenges that pose a reputational business challenge to their organizations.
- Deep experience in designing and executing communications programs across a full range of channels and tactics – rooted in research-informed strategy – to shape public sentiment, build grassroots support, and/or minimize the impact of difficult issues
- Skilled Negotiator: proven experience in creating and leading the execution of communications campaigns for contract negotiations that occur in the public eye.
- Highly preferred experience in supporting hospitals & health systems through contract negotiations with health plans, or from supporting health plans in similar negotiations.
- Related experience such as labor negotiations (ex: 2021/22 MLB negotiations between players & owners) and the communications plans that would be associated to garnering support from the public.
- Highly preferred experience in supporting hospitals & health systems through contract negotiations with health plans, or from supporting health plans in similar negotiations.
- Familiarity with Health Policy Landscape: Understand current and future healthcare policy implications at the federal- and state-levels as they relate to health systems’ ability to do business and negotiate fair contracts.
- Client & Team Leadership: a VP level of comfort leading and building a relationship with clients by providing sound counsel while managing a team of professionals dedicated to executing recommended and approved communications programs.
- Ability to manage multiple accounts, to the highest level of expertise, at once is essential
- As a leader and client counsel this role must also be comfortable and skilled at being deeply involved in writing briefs, messaging & copy, developing strategy, and directing creative development.
- Ability to manage, mentor, coach, and develop a team of talented BPDerrr’s who are equally as dedicated to the execution of great work and great ideas.
- Business Development & Growth: As a VP level role BPD this person will participate – and at times, lead – business development efforts, with involvement in proposal writing & pitching, and contributing to thought leadership via our own channels (blog, social media, website) and speaking engagements at various conferences where our level of expertise is requested (several times a year.)
The Essentials:
- 9-10 years of experience.
- Health system or payor experience required, specifically in the communications or managed care landscape.
- Negotiation-related communications experience strongly preferred.
- Agency experience preferred.
- Demonstrated track record of developing, executing, and optimizing successful integrated communications programs.
- Ability to take highly nuanced information and craft compelling and relatable written narratives tailored for specific target audiences.
- Drive the daily work forward on multiple accounts – with an emphasis on also doing the work – while serving as the critical bridge between client and team to make sure every effort is in service of the communications objective.
- Help to grow and maintain client relationships as part of an integrated team by delivering top quality work and proactively identifying areas for organic growth through new or extended engagement opportunities.
- Manage direct reports and mentor junior team members.
- Team player.
- Strategic thinker and unflappable in pressurized situations and difficult timelines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, verbal, written, and over the phone.
- Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to travel as needed.
