POSITION SUMMARY

The Icon Boiler Mechanic Level 2 independently performs routine boiler repair, installation, pipe fitting, welding, refractory, feedwater, and steam-system work within demonstrated qualifications. This role applies working knowledge of boiler components and operating principles, recognizes common equipment issues, completes assigned scopes with limited supervision, and supports the development of less-experienced team members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Independently execute routine boiler-mechanical assignments in accordance with project scope, daily planning, safety requirements, company procedures, and applicable quality controls.
  • Prepare boilers for inspection and perform routine removal, installation, alignment, fit-up, and repair of boilers, burners, pumps, feedwater equipment, valves, piping, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Perform oxygen-fuel cutting, brazing, soldering, pipe fitting, threading, flange assembly, gasket installation, basic welding, and approved code-welding tasks within current qualifications.
  • Perform routine firetube and watertube re-tubing activities, including tube removal, tube-sheet preparation, tube installation, rolling, joint preparation, and hydrotest support.
  • Complete routine refractory inspection, failure identification, patching, installation, anchor and hardware selection, material measurement, and controlled dry-out or bake-out support.
  • Apply working knowledge of feed tanks, condensate receivers, deaerators, economizers, feed pumps, regulators, level controls, and low-water cutoffs.
  • Identify and troubleshoot basic boiler, burner, pump, feedwater, steam, hot-water, and condensate-system issues and communicate findings to project leadership.
  • Read basic mechanical drawings, pipe drawings, electrical diagrams, and equipment documentation; trace and label control wiring and recognize common starters and phase-rotation requirements.
  • Build routine trap assemblies and support steam-regulating-valve, pressure-reducing-valve, expansion-tank, separator, return-piping, and blowdown-separator work.
  • Maintain complete field records, service reports, material needs, and customer updates; escalate scope, schedule, quality, and safety concerns promptly.
  • Assist Level 1 mechanics and helpers with safe work practices, job setup, tool use, and foundational task development.
  • Participate in factory and company training and progress toward advanced burner, controls, code-repair, and troubleshooting capability.
  • Travel and work overtime as required.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
  • Typically two or more years of relevant boiler, industrial mechanical, pipe fitting, welding, or service experience, or demonstrated equivalent proficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete routine boiler-mechanical assignments with limited supervision.
  • Working ability to read mechanical drawings, pipe drawings, equipment manuals, and basic electrical diagrams.
  • Welding qualification or ability to pass assigned welding tests under Icon Boiler's code program, when required for assigned duties.
  • Working knowledge of trade math, measurements, troubleshooting, and documentation.
  • Basic computer and mobile-technology proficiency.
  • Professional communication, teamwork, customer focus, and willingness to coach less-experienced Associates.
  • Ability to pass required drug screening and establish U.S. employment eligibility.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

LEVEL-SPECIFIC PROFICIENCY EXPECTATIONS

  • Independent execution of routine boiler-mechanical work
  • Routine re-tubing, tube rolling, fit-up, and hydrotest preparation
  • Working feedwater, steam, hydronic, and condensate-system knowledge
  • Basic burner, gas-train, ignition, controls, and troubleshooting capability
  • Working ASME Section I, NBIC repair-concept, and pressure-boundary awareness
  • Accurate documentation, parts identification, and workflow compliance
  • Mentoring helpers and Level 1 mechanics

  • Regular foot use is required. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, squatting, reaching, and keyboarding are required; occasional climbing, crawling, pushing, pulling, and gripping are required.
  • Material handling includes lifting from floor level to overhead, with regular lifting up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting up to 100 pounds or more.
  • Required visual abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The Associate may be exposed to wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, elevated work areas, fumes or airborne particles, chemicals, extreme temperatures, electrical hazards, and vibration.
  • The role requires work at customer and industrial sites and may include confined spaces, ladders, scaffolding, and other physically demanding environments.
