Inventory Cost Accountant

Position Summary:
The Inventory Cost Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our inventory records, which currently consists of an outsourced, third-party model. The Inventory Cost Accountant should be detail-oriented and must have experience in the life sciences industry, including a basic understanding of FDA regulatory compliance. The Company currently utilizes lot specific identification costing method for inventory. The Inventory Cost Accountant should be familiar and have experience in various costing methods as the Company will likely pursue standard costing at some point in the future. The Inventory Cost Accountant will also be responsible for the management of the Company’s third-party logistics provider, which includes oversight of any day-to-day issues, ensuring they are resolved in a timely manner.
Specific Duties:
- Oversee the accurate valuation of inventory using lot specific identification costing of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
- Reconcile monthly inventory records from external third parties with internal inventory records.
- Analyze and investigate inventory variances with various internal and external stakeholders. Implement corrective actions and propose improvements for our external vendors in inventory management.
- Assist in management of day-to-day operations of Braeburn’s third-party logistics provider (3PL).
- Perform regular physical inventory counts as needed.
- Monthly, journalize the necessary inventory entries with appropriate documentation.
- Monitor inventory levels and evaluate potential obsolescence items.
- Assist the Supply Chain team with demand planning activities and provide expertise and review of plans.
- Assist the Controller with other ad-hoc projects as needed.
Skills:
- Ability to partner with all levels of the organization, including senior leaders.
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare accurate reports in a timely fashion, including under time pressure.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP inventory principles.
- Strong understanding of internal controls in a SOX environment.
- Strong communication skills both written and verbally.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain detailed records.
- Intermediate to advanced ability in Microsoft Excel.
Education/Experience:
- 5-7 years of work experience required.
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required, preferably with a major in Accounting, Economics, or Finance.
- Masters/MBA, CPA/CMA or other financial certification preferred.
- NetSuite system experience strongly preferred.
- Life Science industry experience required of at least 3 years.
