Description:
This position is a working job position in the plant where the individual is board operator qualified.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- The role:
• Supervises a crew of of operators who start up and stabilize operations.
• Has authority to direct any and all activities to maintain safe and efficient operation.
• Is fully in charge of the plant unit operations.
• Provides daily planning and scheduling of technicians to ensure safe, efficient, and quality operations are obtained.
• Drives safety and quality excellence and continuous improvement. Indoctrinate/train new employees to improve skills and work safely.
• Leads shift safety tailgate meetings and administers the plant safety program for the shift.
• Practices effective communication with all operations personnel on own unit and other operating units during emergencies (verbal, radio, telephone).
• Understands and applies safety regulations to daily work. Mitigates safety hazards and audits maintenance during normal routine tasks and shutdowns for compliance with all safety regulations.
• Understands Emergency Response procedures. Reviews emergency operating procedures and emergency equipment and its use.
• Perform process equipment troubleshooting, minor repairs, improvements and preventative maintenance, utilizing appropriate processes and disciplines.
• Prepares equipment for maintenance and coordinates the work with maintenance craftsmen to ensure that the work is performed safely and to maintain continuity of operation.
• Monitors safe work practices and enforce safety and environmental procedures.
• Performs tasks, as directed by the Process Specialist and other Operations Day Staff, necessary to control the unit.
• Coordinates maintenance activities with the Production Maintenance Scheduler and maintenance department.
• Ensures Rules of Conduct, absence control, and other procedures/programs/policies are followed.
• Evaluates methods, and seek to improve procedures and productivity.
• Maintains the Safe Job Procedure book for the department.
• Oversees daily, weekly, and monthly reports on production, overtime, inventory of raw material and safety. Incident command for site/area emergencies.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 year work experience in a manufacturing plant with shift rotation required.
• Has capability to qualify as a board operator
• Be able to work with minimum guidance or direction.
• Physically able to use standard safety equipment (rated for 300 lbs or less)
• Be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Be able to work in tight or closed-in spaces (e.g. pipe rack).
• Be able to climb stairs and work at heights.
• Be able to lift hoses, bolt flanges and operate valves and similar equipment as a normal part of the job.
• Be able to work a rotating shift.
• Be able to work overtime as required (including weekends & holidays).
• Pass background check and drug screen.
• Must have a current, valid state driver’s license
Preferred Skills, Education, and Experience:
- Prefer candidate with a chemical plant or industrial plant background.
- Good mechanical aptitude with organizational and communication skills.
- Needs to have demonstrated leadership skills and experience driving change.
- Must know how to change the status quo using creative techniques.
- Must be able to have a sound decision making process and the ability to trouble shoot and accomplish things by working with other employees, Has ability to handle personnel issues including staffing issues and employee development.
- Ability to motivate and coach subordinates.
