Description: 

The Mechanical Engineer provides direct engineering support to the Maintenance & Operations Organizations. Must have hands on experience in fixed & rotating equipment, including compressors, pumps, extruders, piping, and vessel inspections. Position is the front line technical resource for daily maintenance program execution. Responsibilities will also include routine assistance to operations and maintenance groups in troubleshooting and repairing equipment.

Key Responsibilities Include: 

  • Provide technical support to planners in the development of work orders for day-to-day execution
  • Utilize mechanical knowledge to support complex troubleshooting of equipment issues
  • MOC creation for plant equipment modification
  • Provide oversight for predictive maintenance programs including vibration, thermography, lubrication analysis, and ultrasonics
  • Field oversight of PM efficacy and adjustment of PM’s as needed
  • Implement reliability best practices
  • Develop and optimize preventive maintenance tasks, and support maintenance activities
  • Equipment repairs, including issuing ITP’s as required
  • Capital equipment replacements or overhauls
  • Conduct root cause investigations of mechanical equipment failures
  • Reviewing and responding to feedback from work execution team

Requirements:

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the refining, petrochemical, or chemical process preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are critical for effective communication of complex issues across the organization, as well as for mentoring and consensus building.
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of business drivers, change management requirements, reliability processes, and maintenance workflows.
  • The individual must have or develop basic proficiency in the following areas with the ability to develop into a subject matter expert in particular areas:
    • Basic understanding of industry codes and standards (i.e., API, ASME)
    • Predictive and Preventive Maintenance concepts
    • Ability to apply computer software tools (SAP, Microsoft Office, Meridium)
  • Must be an excellent communicator, a strong leader, have solid interpersonal skills, and be able to interact with all levels in the organization.
  • Must be a self-starter and have high standards.
  • Knowledge and understanding of sound engineering practices and principles relating to mechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of rotating equipment design, installation, and maintenance, including hands-on troubleshooting of pumps, compressors, and extruders.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Predictive technologies, including vibration, thermography, lubrication analysis, and ultrasonic

Preferred Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Ability to handle complex, abstract problems from identification to resolution
  • Experience with predictive maintenance with Certifications in vibration, oil analysis, thermography, etc.
  • Experience with Fixed equipment inspection and repair (including API 510, 570, and 653).
  • Able to work in a cross-functional matrix environment
  • Knowledge of coordinating Turn Around activities.
  • Must be currently eligible to work in the United States without the need for any type of sponsorship.
