Investment Engineer Intern - 2026

New York City

Bridgewater is one of the largest, most successful hedge funds of all-time, founded in 1975. We’ve built a unique understanding of global economies and financial markets used to generate high and uncorrelated returns (alpha) in systematic investment strategies.  Our approach is rooted in a fundamental understanding of the drivers of economies and markets and the systemization of those ideas

We are looking to hire great talent for our Investment Engineering roles. Does this sound like you?

Our Investment Engineers (IEs) are a core part of our investment team, owning our automated investment systems. They build & continuously evolve our models and algorithms, enable thorough research and testing of new trading ideas, and set the vision for the technology roadmap to enable maximum productivity. Our Investment Engineers are:

  • Relentlessly, obsessively- curious: At Bridgwater, we are relentlessly generating new ideas on how to beat the markets. We need individuals who are excited about tackling abstract new investment ideas and quickly translating them into quantifiable measures to test their promise.
  • Analytically rigorous: As an Investment Engineer, you will be faced with challenging investment and technical problems. You will need to be both creative and analytically rigorous to turn investment theses into fully equipped trading signals.
  • Able to design and build large-scale systems: We need people who are passionate about building and designing systems that are easy to understand and evolve. Our ideas are constantly changing as the world is changing; we need systems that speed us up, not slow us down.
  • Deeply independent and skeptical thinker: Investment Engineers are experts in their investment domain and can hold the whole model of the investment system in their head. As an Investment Engineer, you are constantly scrutinizing our outputs and signals, evaluating the performance of our existing systems, and improving our investment logic.

Our culture of idea meritocracy requires constant, intensive collaboration and exploration of ideas. Grit is essential – many of the problems we try to solve don’t have immediate or clear answers and wrestling through to the truth alongside others takes enormous perseverance.

What can I expect in an Investment Engineering summer internship?

Our goal is to provide interns with real and meaningful exposure to a fundamental and systematic investment process. As Investment Engineers, we are constantly trying to improve our investment systems and want our interns to have the chance to do the same. We hate the concept of “busy work” and try to make the internship as real of a window as possible. The internship is structured around the same components as Bridgewater’s research and systemization process—you’ll gain a fundamental understanding of how markets work. You will get exposure to systemization—working with our investors to translate the core logic into data and mathematical expressions that you can then both stress-test through time and refine.

Throughout the internship, you’ll also receive world class engineering and macroeconomic training via an abridged version of our first year Investment Engineering class. This will cover the foundational frameworks, a rigorous training in our engineering practices, and an introduction to analytical methods we use in our research. Our training ecosystem is designed so that anyone willing to put in the work can get the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the internship and get a taste of what it’s like to be a real engineer.

Compensation

Total compensation for this position is $51,000 for the 8-week internship (less applicable deductions and withholdings), including a sign on bonus. In addition, our compensation package includes housing.
