Frontend Engineer
Join Bright Network as our Frontend Engineer!
About Bright Network:
At Bright Network, we believe that “talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not”. We're on a mission to change that. As a leading data and tech platform, we’re building the workforce of tomorrow. With over 1 million members, partnerships with 300+ global companies, and £10M+ in venture capital backing, we’re moving fast - having launched into new markets and scaling rapidly.
Our Tech & Product Team play a core role in empowering the next generation with insights, advice and guidance to connect them with leading employers like Amazon, Google, HSBC and many more. Now, we’re searching for a Frontend Engineer to join our Tech & Product Team as we head into our next exciting chapter of growth.
The Role:
As a Frontend Engineer, you’ll have the exciting opportunity to work in our Tech & Product Team (currently a team of 15!) where you’ll be specifically joining our B2C squad of four talented engineers, focusing on building innovative features that solve real-world problems for our student members. Collaborating closely with your direct team members along with other stakeholders across the company, you’ll be enacting real and meaningful change to students and graduates in the UK and beyond!
The primary codebase is written in Python and Django, with a growing amount of TypeScript and React on the frontend (we’re in the process of migrating to Tailwind, too!). All our infrastructure is on AWS and managed via Terraform. We work in 2-week sprints, with flexibility to choose what you want to work on, time to learn and mentor, and time to address technical debt.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with our engineers and designers to craft seamless, user-centric frontends using React, TypeScript, and Tailwind
- Champion quality by rigorously testing frontend components and features using testing frameworks such as Playwright
- Help raise the bar through thoughtful code reviews, offering and receiving feedback that sharpens skills, fosters growth, and drives engineering excellence across the team.
- Stay ahead of the curve by exploring the latest innovations in JavaScript and CSS, applying modern best practices to keep our codebase clean, accessible, and high-performing
Does this sound like you?
- You’re a frontend engineer with established professional experience using React, TypeScript and CSS to autonomously build responsive web applications
- You have experience collaborating effectively with backend developers and designers
- You have solid knowledge of build tools such as Webpack, Parcel, ESBuild or Vite
- You have strong communication and teamwork skills
- You’re excited about working in an ego-free and collaborative team who pride themselves on high quality engineering & products
What makes our team & culture great?
We’ve worked really hard to build the engineering team and culture that we want to work in, and we all believe we’ve built something special. We are focused on world-class engineering to build high-quality, scalable and user-centred products and platforms.
We work hard to balance our ambitious objectives with our own personal development each sprint. We operate on a “no egos” basis and push for a high-performing team with psychological safety. You’ll have a lot of autonomy and influence on our technology and processes, and will find very little red tape or unnecessary constraints here. Our drive for evidence and data-driven decisions has helped us in creating multiple products that we take a lot of pride in!
What's in it for you as our future Frontend Engineer?
- We have recently been awarded the Great Place To Work certification, reflecting our commitment to a positive and supportive workplace culture and recognising our focus on employee satisfaction, inclusivity & work-life balance ⚖️
- Join a high-growth and rapidly scaling business – we launched internationally into the German market in 2022 and have further growth planned this year 🚀
- Incredible progression & development opportunities – year on year approx. 20% of our team receive promotions – you can check the team out on LinkedIn if you don’t believe us! 📈
- Enjoy 28 days’ annual leave plus two weeks off during our Christmas Office Closure. This does not include Bank Holidays, either! 📆
- Market-leading benefits package: flexible and hybrid working, "work from anywhere" policy, £50 monthly wellbeing budget, enhanced pension contribution via Aviva, private healthcare via Bupa, enhanced parental leave, regular team socials & more! 💎
