Legal Counsel (Part Time)
Join Bright Network as our Legal Counsel!
Introducing Bright Network:
At Bright Network, we believe that “talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not.” We’re on a mission to change that. As a leading data and tech platform, we’re building the workforce of tomorrow. With over 1 million members, partnerships with 300+ global companies and £10m+ in venture capital backing, we’re moving fast – having launched into new markets and scaling rapidly.
Bright Network is building something special. Our platform is established in the UK, growing in Germany, and we’re about to launch an innovative new AI product to market. To support this next chapter, we’re looking for an in-house Legal Counsel to join us on a part-time basis (2.5 days per week). You’ll play a key role in guiding the business across a broad range of legal matters, from supporting our existing operations to advising on new product development. It’s a chance to make a meaningful impact in a growing company while shaping how legal expertise supports our future.
The Role:
Reporting into our CFO, as Legal Counsel you’ll have the opportunity to lead our in-house legal function, ensuring that we shape the business in the right way serving as both an advisor and gatekeeper on all legal matters.
Working closely with our business teams to facilitate growth, you’ll act as a true partner to deliver tangible commercial value on a daily basis. You’ll enjoy a varied workload, with strong drafting, commercial and negotiating skills. We’re in the nascent stages of launching a new AI product as well as growing in Germany, so there’ll be great opportunity to expand your knowledge, gain AI and international experience and own the detail of this from an early stage.
Specifically, you will:
- Develop and execute legal strategy aligned with our business objectives and growth plans
- Advise our senior leadership on the legal implications of strategic decisions and business development opportunities
- Serve as a trusted business partner to our cross-functional teams and provide commercial legal guidance to enable business success – including collaborating with our Product Team to ensure legal requirements are embedded in development processes and our People Team on employment law matters
- Provide proactive legal input into new products and initiatives from conception through to launch - we want you to be part of solutions from the outset
- Establish processes, templates and frameworks, and draft, negotiate and execute commercial agreements for sustainable legal support
Does this sound like you?
- You have 3+ years’ post-qualification experience with proven in-house legal experience (commercial or corporate focus)
- You have experience of employment, data protection and intellectual property law (or work with our external counsel to execute on this work)
- You have a proven technical ability to draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements to tight timescales
- You’re able to manage conflicting time pressures when different areas of the business need your time
- You’re a strong communicator with a thirst for problem-solving – you're able to build relationships with all teams across the business and partner with them effectively
What’s in it for you as our future Legal Counsel?
- We have recently been awarded the Great Place To Work certification, reflecting our commitment to a positive and supportive workplace culture and recognising our focus on employee satisfaction, inclusivity and work-life balance ⚖️
- Join a high growth and scaling business – we launched internationally into the German market in 2022 and are currently launching a brand new AI product – there's no better time to join us! 🚀
- Enjoy pro rata 28 days’ annual leave plus 2 weeks off during our Christmas Office Closure. This does not include Bank Holidays, either! 📆
- Market leading benefits package: Flexible and hybrid working, “work from anywhere” policy, £50 monthly wellbeing budget, private healthcare via Bupa, enhanced pension contribution, enhanced parental leave, regular team socials and more! 💎
- You’ll be driving forward our mission – upskilling the next generation of future talent and connecting members with opportunities they otherwise simply wouldn’t have access to! 🧡
Key Details:
- Location: London, Liverpool Street (with hybrid-working)
- Salary: £60,000 for 2.5 days per week (there is flexibility regarding the timing of the 2.5 days in the week but this would need to be mutually agreeable)
- Start Date: ASAP
- Contract: This is a permanent part time position
Application & Interview Process:
- Initial screening call: 30 minute Zoom call with our Senior Talent Partner
- First round: Competency interview with our CFO
- Second round: Presentation & task with our CFO & external counsel followed by a values & culture interview with the wider team
