The British Asian India Foundation (BAIF) is dedicated to driving sustainable and long-term social impact across education, child protection, and livelihoods. In collaboration with governments, grassroots organisations, and the private sector, we develop scalable solutions that empower communities and transform lives, often leveraging innovative social finance mechanisms to maximise reach and effectiveness. BAIF’s programmes align closely with India’s key national priorities, including NIPUN Bharat Mission, Mission Vatsalya, and PM Jan Arogya Yojana.
We are now looking for a new member of our Social Finance Team in India. We are seeking a manager to help us expand our work in India in the space of nano entrepreneurship.
Job purpose
This role will be critical to ensure the successful delivery of our nano-entrepreneurship initiative in India. Implementation and performance management sit at the heart of this role, with support across programme design and thought leadership.
Main Responsibilities
1. Programme and performance management:
Lead the implementation and manage the delivery and operations of our nano entrepreneurship project. This will include, but is not limited to:
- Create performance management framework for the project, including defining key monitoring indicators, data points and collection, risk metrics, and working with nonprofits to operationalise this
- Create and operationalise the monitoring MIS and data architecture
- Collect and analyse program data to assess effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and inform outcomes achievement
- Help nonprofits to develop and refine implementation strategies, problem solve, and innovate based on the data and insights from the performance management framework
- Identify and address program challenges, developing and implementing solutions to ensure outcomes are achieved
- Coordination and management of all stakeholders
- Ensure internal and external donor reporting requirements are met in a timely manner
- Budget management and financial reporting
- Share learning and insights from the data across all partners and externally to ensure cross-fertilization and knowledge sharing
- Support any policy/advocacy-related activities with the relevant government/ public sector body
2. Evaluation management
- Lead and manage evaluation conversations with third party, evaluator and outcome funders, including developing and maintaining excellent internal and external relationships with all partners
- Ensure smooth execution of evaluation as per the agreed timelines and workplan.
- Continuously work with evaluator to anticipate issues, challenges or concerns early along with mitigation measures.
- Responsible for timely review of results and evaluation reports for all relevant stakeholders
3. Overall operational support to the team:
- Support on any team-related reporting such as periodic project updates, progress, budget reports for internal committees.
- Support on any communications or events support for the Social Finance team.
Job-related knowledge, skills, and experience:
We think you will be a successful candidate if you have:
- 7–8 years of demonstrable work experience in a fast-paced environment, with a consistent ability to deliver against project plans on time.
- Significant and proven experience in implementing high-quality projects with multiple non-profits.
- Strong experience in managing monitoring systems and conducting impact evaluations.
- Experience and understanding of outcome-based financing is desirable.
- Strong analytical skills, supported by sound judgment under pressure and the ability to identify solutions to mitigate project delivery risks and issues.
- Excellent numeracy skills, with confidence in data collection, analysis, and data management.
- Confidence to independently facilitate and coordinate discussions with multiple stakeholders (internal and external) and partners.
- A strong track record in time management, systems organisation, and follow-up.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills such as active listening and empathy. Experience with communications is an added advantage.
- Agility and flexibility to adapt to evolving responsibilities and project pivots/changes.
- A collaborative approach and ability to work effectively with global and cross-cutting teams.
- Strong critical thinking skills and high integrity.
- Willingness and openness to contribute to programme management, design, and new business development, along with a desire to acquire relevant skills as needed.
- Proven ability to build and manage strong working relationships with colleagues across teams.
- Highly aware of participant needs and uses programme impact on these groups as a guiding principle for decision-making.
- Reviews administrative frameworks to ensure they are streamlined for maximum efficiency, while also verifying the accuracy of system outputs. Manages personal administrative tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
- Integrates ethical conduct and safeguarding considerations into programme management. Positively influences team ethics and contributes to safeguarding policy discussions.
- Aligns programme strategies with donor requirements and the Theory of Change. Mobilises a partner network around programme outcomes, ensuring alignment between BAT, partners, and donors.
- Confidently oversees programme budgets, forecasts financial performance, and maintains fiscal responsibility. Applies budget management skills to strategically allocate funds and enhance programme impact. Skilled in coordinating budgets across multiple projects, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and offering recommendations to improve financial efficiency and outcomes.
- Develops and manages risk frameworks, ensuring consistent application at the programme level. Independently executes mitigation plans, leads critical issue resolution, and proactively escalates political or reputational risks. Leads due diligence efforts and contributes to the development of related policies and frameworks. Mentors’ others in due diligence practices and manages complex assessments strategically.
- Champions innovative practices while fostering entrepreneurial thinking across programme teams. Leads by example in implementing novel solutions and contributes to the strategic direction of innovation in their programme area.
- Adapts communication style effectively for different audiences, framing complex and difficult messages constructively. Utilises structured business writing, is highly aware of personal impact, and adjusts communication to maximise influence. Builds rapport and influences others through compelling storytelling.
