About the role
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Payroll and Benefits Specialist to join our dynamic HR team in Montreal (Hybrid).
This is a critical role responsible for overseeing all aspects of our global payroll and benefits administration for our 300+ employees.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing complex payroll processes in both Canada and the US, and a proven track record of managing relationships with Employer of Record (EOR) partners for our APAC and European teams.
This role is perfect for a detail-oriented professional with a deep understanding of payroll compliance, a passion for creating best-in-class benefits programs, and an interest in compensation strategy.
As our headquarters are in Quebec, bilingualism (French and English) is essential for this role.
What to expect
Key Responsibilities:
Global Payroll Management:
- Oversee and manage 10 different payroll processes for our 300 employees across Canada, the US, Europe, and APAC.
- Manage relationships with our EOR partners (GP, Deel & Remote) to ensure accurate and timely payroll for our APAC and European teams.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all employee inquiries regarding pay and benefits, ensuring a high level of service and responsiveness.
Benefits Administration & Strategy:
- Develop and execute a global benefits strategy to ensure we offer a competitive and best-in-class benefits program in all locations where we have employees.
- Administer all aspects of our employee perks and benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, wellness and retirement plans (RRSP and 401K).
- Analyze and evaluate our global benefits programs to ensure they are cost-effective, competitive, and aligned with our company's total rewards philosophy.
Compliance & Compensation:
- Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, and state payroll and benefits regulations, including pay equity legislation.
- Stay current on all new legislation and industry trends to ensure our policies and practices are up-to-date.
- Partner with the HR Operations Manager on compensation-related projects, including salary benchmarking and analysis.
What you need to perform in this job
- Extensive Experience: 7+ years of progressive experience in payroll and benefits administration, with a focus on multi-provincial and multi-state environments.
- Global Mindset: Experience working with EORs and managing payroll and benefits for a global workforce is highly desirable.
- Compliance Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Canadian and US payroll and benefits legislation, including pay equity.
- Strategic Thinker: Proven ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives that enhance the employee experience.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly and concisely.
- Bilingualism: Fluency in English and French is required.
- Tech-Savvy: Proficient in HRIS and payroll systems.

Knowledge of French is required for positions permanently located in Quebec so incumbents can communicate with their colleagues and partners in Quebec as necessary. French-language training is offered to all incumbents in permanent positions in Quebec who do not have a good knowledge of French. Fluent English is required for this position in order to communicate with colleagues, clients and partners (or suppliers) located outside Quebec and to understand the technical and scientific documentation used in our industry
