Frontend Developer, Shopify

North Reading, MA

We’re leading the way in redefining the workwear category. Our mission is to engineer better boots and apparel for our country’s tradesmen and women by working directly with real workers to learn what they actually need to execute their jobs.

The BRUNT team is not only devoted to improving on the old workwear standards, but we’re also creating a community that tradesmen and women can call their own. From our weekly hangouts at the BRUNT Garage, to hosting events across the country, we’re all about getting boots on the ground and building something real with the BRUNT crew.

What You’ll Do:

BRUNT is a fast-growing workwear brand built for the trades, and our digital commerce experience is a direct extension of that identity. As our Frontend Developer, Shopify you will be the primary internal owner of our Shopify Plus storefront ecosystem, responsible for building, maintaining, and continuously improving the digital experiences that serve our DTC customers online, our wholesale partners through our B2B catalog, and our retail teams through Shopify Point of Sale.

Reporting to the Vice President of Digital Product, you will work as a member of the Digital Product team. You will translate design and product vision into high-quality Shopify development sprint routines, partnering closely with your team from concept through delivery. You will also collaborate with an outsourced Shopify development partner, coordinating on parallel and intersecting workstreams and ensuring a consistent standard of quality and brand experience across all development output.

As BRUNT’s Frontend Developer, Shopify  you will own the highest-priority development initiatives across all three commerce channels. With our business poised to grow significantly over the next two years, the Shopify platforms in particular represents a major and expanding area of ownership and innovation. You will work within a 2–4 week Agile sprint cycle, partnering with the broader Technology team to ensure all releases are thoroughly tested and delivered with confidence.

How You’ll Do It:

STOREFRONT DEVELOPMENT & THEME CUSTOMIZATION

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance the BRUNT DTC eCommerce storefront on Shopify Plus, building and customizing Liquid-based themes to deliver a brand-consistent, high-performance shopping experience.
  • Translate UX design specifications and product requirements into clean, efficient, and well-documented Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code.
  • Build and maintain custom theme sections, templates, and components that support merchandising flexibility and brand storytelling across the storefront.
  • Ensure all storefront experiences are fully responsive and optimized across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
  • Leverage Shopify Plus features including Shopify Scripts, Flow, and Launchpad to support promotions, automation, and enhanced checkout experiences.

B2B WHOLESALE PLATFORM

  • Maintain and enhance the BRUNT B2B wholesale catalog built on Shopify Plus, ensuring a seamless ordering experience for wholesale partners and internal sales teams.
  • Develop new features and functionality for the B2B platform as business requirements evolve, including enhancements that support the company’s growing wholesale channel.
  • Partner with Product Managers and UX Designers to identify and implement improvements to the wholesale customer experience.

SHOPIFY POINT OF SALE

  • Own the development and ongoing enhancement of the BRUNT Shopify POS implementation, supporting our retail store operations and ensuring consistent, reliable in-store experiences.
  • Build and maintain POS customizations, workflows, and configurations that meet the operational needs of BRUNT retail store teams.
  • Architect and develop scalable POS solutions that can be efficiently replicated and deployed as BRUNT expands from its current footprint to a multi-location retail network over the next 24 months.
  • Partner with Retail Operations and Technology stakeholders to identify POS feature needs and translate them into development requirements.

APP INTEGRATION & PLATFORM CONFIGURATION

  • Evaluate, integrate, and configure Shopify apps and third-party tools that extend platform functionality across the DTC, B2B, and POS channels.
  • Manage Shopify Plus store configuration, including metafields, custom data structures, and Shopify Admin settings that support business operations.
  • Collaborate with the Technology team to ensure Shopify integrations with back-end platforms operate as expected, escalating technical issues through the appropriate channels.

PERFORMANCE & QUALITY

  • Continuously monitor and optimize storefront performance, including page load speed, Core Web Vitals, and overall site health across all three Shopify channels.
  • Write clean, well-structured, version-controlled code using Git, following established branching, commit, and code documentation standards.
  • Participate in Agile sprint ceremonies including planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives using Jira for sprint and backlog management.
  • Partner with the QA Engineer to ensure all development work is properly tested prior to release, providing clear context and documentation to support the QA process.

EXTERNAL PARTNER COORDINATION

  • Work alongside an outsourced Shopify development partner on parallel workstreams, maintaining open communication and consistent development standards across both teams.
  • Serve as the internal technical point of reference for Shopify platform decisions, ensuring that external partner output aligns with BRUNT’s quality, brand, and architectural standards.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • 3–5 years of demonstrated Shopify development experience, with hands-on ownership of storefront builds, theme customization, and platform configuration.
  • Proven experience on Shopify Plus, including familiarity with Plus-specific features such as Shopify Scripts, Flow, Launchpad, and multi-channel store management.
  • Strong proficiency in Shopify’s Liquid templating language and a deep understanding of Shopify theme architecture, sections, and Online Store 2.0 standards.
  • Solid front-end development skills including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with the ability to build responsive, cross-device experiences without reliance on external frameworks.
  • Experience developing for or configuring Shopify B2B / wholesale catalog functionality is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Shopify POS development, configuration, or customization is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Shopify’s REST and GraphQL APIs for storefront data access, custom app interactions, and third-party integrations.
  • Experience evaluating, integrating, and configuring Shopify apps and third-party tools to extend platform capabilities.
  • Proficiency with Git for version control and comfort working within a structured branching and code review workflow.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments using Jira or comparable sprint management tools.
  • Strong ability to collaborate cross-functionally with UX Designers, Product Managers, QA Engineers, and non-technical stakeholders to translate requirements into development solutions.
  • Comfortable operating as the sole internal Shopify developer, managing competing priorities across multiple commerce channels with a high degree of ownership and autonomy.
  • Strong attention to detail, a commitment to code quality, and a proactive approach to performance optimization and platform best practices.
  • Experience working alongside or coordinating with external development partners or agencies is a plus.
  • Must be 18+ and able to reliably commute to the work location 4x per week
  • Full-time availability, including occasional evening or weekend support during major releases, platform updates, or retail store go-lives.

Form CC-305

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
