Role Description

Project Engineers manage the planning and processes of a project and coordinate responsibilities with field managers to ensure the project is completed efficiently and successfully. They work as a team with a Project Manager on multiple site development projects. Project Engineers are expected to have regular interactions with the field personnel and visit the project sites to gauge progress, manage material deliveries, and generally support the successful completion of the project. The day-to-day duties and responsibilities may vary depending on the type of industry, company or project they’re working on, but typically include the following: 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular meetings with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to clarify requirements, review progress, and ensure all project expectations are met in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and monitor project budgets, track cost exposures, and proactively adjust forecasts as conditions change in the field.
  • Track project performance, including schedule milestones, production rates, and quality metrics, and analyze progress against key goals.
  • Document and report project progress through daily logs, weekly updates, and formal reporting to stakeholders, clients, and senior leadership.
  • Coordinate closely with field personnel, including Superintendents and Foremen, to ensure alignment between project plans and field execution.
  • Manage material procurement and delivery schedules, ensuring materials arrive on time and meet project specifications.
  • Assist with project scheduling, including updating timelines, identifying critical path activities, and adjusting plans based on field conditions.
  • Support quality control efforts, ensuring work meets engineering standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications, and communicate changes or clarifications to field teams.
  • Identify and resolve project issues, including conflicts, delays, or design discrepancies, by coordinating with the Project Manager and field leadership.
  • Prepare and process project documentation, such as RFIs, submittals, change orders, and as‑built records.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, participate in site safety meetings, and support the enforcement of company safety policies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, inspectors, vendors, and subcontractors to support smooth project execution.
  • Visit project sites regularly to assess progress, verify work in place, and ensure alignment with project plans and schedules.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or other related discipline required
  • Organization and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to use specialized software for collaboration and time management, including Office, Bluebeam and Excel
  • Strong time management and analytical skills
  • Firm understanding of complex mathematical concepts
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • OSHA 10/30 required
  • Minimum of 1 years of construction management experience in estimating, operations and/or engineering preferred but not required.
