Job Description:
We’re seeking a strategic and detail-driven Director of Retail Operations to elevate and scale our retail presence across domestic and international markets. This role is central to ensuring flawless execution across all retail channels—driving operational excellence, optimizing systems and processes, and building infrastructure to support long-term, sustainable growth. From 3PL performance to EDI troubleshooting to cross-functional project management, this individual will be both the architect and executor of high-impact operational strategies.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Retail Operations Strategy & Execution
- Lead operational planning and execution for new and existing retail partnerships, collaborating closely with Sales, Supply Chain, and Finance.
- Implement initiatives to minimize shrink and theft at the point of sale, exploring packaging, labeling, and technology-based solutions to secure product integrity.
- Partner with Product, Packaging, and Field teams to reduce stock loss and improve in-store efficiency.
3PL & Fulfillment Oversight
- Manage relationships with third-party logistics (3PL) partners, including performance monitoring, SLA compliance, and escalation management.
- Optimize inbound and outbound retail fulfillment processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
- Lead negotiations and performance improvement efforts with 3PLs to align with evolving business needs.
EDI Ownership & Optimization
- Own the end-to-end EDI ecosystem, including vendor management, data integrity, and cross-functional troubleshooting.
- Act as the internal subject matter expert for all EDI workflows, identifying and resolving errors in real time while building proactive solutions for long-term stability.
Financial & Deduction Management
- Serve as the retail operations lead for deduction management, working in partnership with Finance to track, investigate, and prevent off-invoice deductions.
- Analyze deduction trends to identify root causes (e.g., warehouse noncompliance, routing errors, mislabeling) and implement preventative process improvements.
- Develop and monitor KPIs that improve cost visibility, inventory accuracy, and retailer compliance.
Long-Term Cost Optimization & Risk Mitigation
- Identify strategic opportunities to reduce operational costs across packaging, logistics, compliance, and returns.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to prevent chargebacks, reduce waste, and improve POS performance.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts that balance efficiency, scalability, and customer/retailer experience.
- Deep expertise in 3PL operations, including performance management and contract negotiation.
International Distribution Enablement
- Develop and implement operational systems and processes to support seamless international expansion.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with customs, labeling, and retailer-specific requirements in new markets.
- Build scalable frameworks for international 3PL selection, routing guides, and performance tracking.
Analytics & Reporting
- Build and maintain dashboards and reporting tools to monitor operational performance across EDI, 3PL, deduction management, and fulfillment.
- Translate data into actionable insights and present key trends, risks, and opportunities to executive leadership.
- Collaborate with Finance, Sales, and Planning to support accurate forecasting, demand planning, and retailer score-carding.
Expectations & Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience in retail operations, supply chain, or logistics; beauty or CPG preferred.
- Hands-on experience managing EDI systems and troubleshooting complex data flow issues.
- Deep expertise in 3PL operations, including performance management and contract negotiation.
- High financial fluency with a track record of deduction analysis and resolution.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify and address operational inefficiencies.
- Experience developing reports and performance dashboards across operational KPIs.
- Excellent project management and cross-functional leadership abilities.
- Future-minded operator with the ability to balance tactical execution with long-term strategic thinking.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience implementing retail security or anti-theft measures at the product or POS level.
- Experience supporting international distribution, including documentation, compliance, and partner onboarding.
- Familiarity with systems like Truecommerce, or similar EDI platforms.
- Experience working with national and regional retailers in both the U.S. and international markets.
- Advanced Excel or data analysis tools proficiency.
