The Business of Fashion (BoF) is looking to hire an experienced commercial strategist and business development leader in a newly created role - Head of Beauty, Commercial - leading the commercial growth of The Business of Beauty. Today, The Business of Beauty has 125,000 newsletter subscribers, an annual flagship event in The Global Beauty Forum and an annual programme supporting beauty entrepreneurs, The Global Beauty Awards. This person will be charged with ambitious sales targets to grow revenue across all product lines including subscription products, experiential and events, professional services as well as media and advertising. 

This is a unique opportunity to helm a new and strategically important business inside of a growing company. The ideal candidate is an accomplished sales leader with deep and meaningful relationships in the beauty and wellness industries. This role will report to BoF’s Chief Business Officer.

 Who You Are

  • Experience in a senior commercial or business development role within the beauty, wellness, or related sectors (advertising, media, etc.).
  • Proven track record of driving revenue growth and securing high-value partnerships with either top-tier beauty and wellness brands or non-endemic clients activating within the beauty industry
  • Deep understanding of the beauty and wellness industries, with a strong network of relationships with key industry stakeholders.
  • Exceptional negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to close complex deals.
  • A passion for beauty, wellness, and emerging trends in the space.
  • Experience working cross functionally and an excellent collaborator leading with a growth mindset 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and a transatlantic company, while maintaining a strategic and long-term outlook.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in media, publishing, or digital platforms focused on beauty, wellness, or lifestyle.
  • Existing relationships with major beauty, wellness, and lifestyle brands.
  • Familiarity with media planning, digital advertising, and content partnership models.
  • Understanding of global markets and regional trends in beauty and wellness.

What We Need You To Do 

As the Head of Beauty - Commercial, you will be responsible an ambitious annual sales target, developing global partnerships that are significant in revenue terms, scalable in terms of their long-term potential, and strategic in the sense that they support the growth of The Business of Beauty’s existing marketing products and events as well as identifying new growth opportunities. 

This role will lead the our commercial beauty growth and collaborate cross functionally across all commercial product lines within the business  including BoF Professional corporate subscriptions, BoF Careers global recruitment network, BoF Insights advisory and Brand Partnership that encompasses digital advertising, branded content and event sponsorships. 

You’ll get to work on a fast-growing business and have a direct tangible impact on its success each and every day. You will conceive, plan and execute commercial partnerships that create a significant return on investment for the BoF and Business of Beauty communities and for its partners.

In this sales-driven role you will be expected to leverage your existing relationships as well as build new relationships with the most important companies in the beauty and wellness industries and non-endemic industries such as tech, real estate, travel, hospitality and spirits. As such you must be able to work at a strategic level, generating bold and imaginative partnership ideas that sit at the intersection of BoF’s strategic needs and those of our potential partners.

This role does not have a direct report in its first year and you will be expected to run your deals from concept to contract. With a growth mindset, we expect you to not just define the strategy, but take it to market, creating your own proposals and working the deals through a completed contract. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Revenue Generation & Strategy Development:
    • Develop and execute a comprehensive commercial strategy to drive revenue growth across beauty and wellness verticals, including digital advertising, events, content partnerships, and sponsorships.
    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the beauty and wellness sectors, contributing to BoF’s core commercial products and services 
    • Build and lead a robust sales pipeline by cultivating relationships with key decision-makers at beauty brands, wellness companies, and agencies.
    • Lead the negotiation and structuring of key deals and contracts, ensuring alignment with company objectives while maximizing profitability.
  • Client Relationship Management:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for key beauty and wellness clients, maintaining and nurturing long-term partnerships.
    • Work closely with internal teams to craft tailored advertising, content, and sponsorship proposals that resonate with client goals.
    • Ensure the successful execution and delivery of campaigns, measuring performance and delivering actionable insights to clients to foster long-term loyalty.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership:
    • Collaborate with commercial, events and delivery teams to develop innovative offerings that appeal to beauty and wellness brands.
    • Work closely with leadership to set track progress, and adjust strategies as needed to meet and exceed goals.

 You Will Know You’re Successful When…

  • Responsible for achieving a personal sales goal ($1.2M+), managing sales pipeline and closing new business via strategic partnerships within the beauty and wellness industries
  • Secure strategic partnerships that support BoF’s core products including subscriptions, experiential, professional and marketing services 
  • Leverage your existing beauty and wellness  industry network of senior executives to grow and up-sell The Business of Beauty’s commercial products and services
  • Collaborate cross functionally with the other sales and partnerships teams, ensuring revenue and community experience is maximised 
  • Create partnerships that unlock new value and tap into new audiences feeding into our strategic platform for the members of the global beauty and wellness community
  • Expand The Business of Beauty’s partner portfolio across key verticals - in addition to beauty, and wellness, tapping into non-endemic verticals such as technology, retail, travel and automotive 
  • You have grown The Business of Beauty to be a sustainable business that profitably contributes to BoF’s overall bottom line.
  • You are a trusted BoF and Business of Beauty “ambassador” among industry professionals
