The Software Engineer III owns some team architecture, a shared capability, or a major cross-team technical initiative. This role leads ambiguous engineering work, shapes technical direction, and aligns engineers, product partners, and adjacent teams around simple, durable solutions. The Software Engineer III is expected to be a strong technical decision-maker, a force multiplier for the team, and a visible mentor to other engineers..

The Role
•    Innovative design and analysis of enhancements in clearly defined or ambiguous spaces.
•    Deliver clean, efficient code based on sprint commitments and following code standards and best practices.
•    Lead the design, implementation, and delivery of complex software initiatives spanning multiple engineers or related teams.
•    Own architecture decisions for a team area, service boundary, or shared capability and improve long-term system health.
•    Break large initiatives into deliverable increments that can be built in parallel and reassembled into a cohesive launch.
•    Drive design reviews, provide instructive code reviews, and raise engineering standards for security, quality, resilience, and maintainability.
•    Identify bottlenecks, architecture deficiencies, or endemic problems and drive the right response across teams.
•    Mentor engineers, contribute to hiring, and help managers assess technical growth and readiness.
•    Define team patterns for responsible AI-assisted development, including where AI helps with coding, testing, documentation, or incident response and where stronger controls are required.
•    Influence technical decisions beyond your immediate team through collaboration, design leadership, and engineering best practices.
•    Performs other duties as assigned.
•    Comply with all policies and standards.

Qualifications:
•    Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, CIS, Software Engineering, or related degree or equivalent practical experience.
•    5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a record of leading complex or ambiguous technical work.
•    Experience owning architecture or a major technical area for a team, product, or platform capability.
•    Strong design, coding, debugging, testing, and production operations skills in modern software systems.
•    Ability to make sound trade-offs across customer impact, delivery speed, maintainability, security, and operational risk.
•    Ability to influence across teams and levels without relying on direct authority.
•    Extensive knowledge of JAVA, SQL, XML, HTML, CSS, JavaScript/JQuery, Object-Oriented Programming and Relational Databases (Oracle and PostgreSQL).

Preferred Qualifications
•    Experience with distributed systems, platform services, data-intensive systems, integrations, or shared technical capabilities.
•    Experience setting standards for AI-assisted development workflows, tooling evaluation, or engineering productivity mechanisms.
•    Experience in benefits administration, HR technology, regulated SaaS, or other complex B2B platforms.
•    Any experience of development in the following areas is helpful: AWS and AWS Lambda’s. User interface development. Mobile development with HTML5 or Swift. Bootstrap, JQuery, or React Native. Billing and Payroll. Data import/export, SSO, or large-scale EDI.
