Our team is made up of people who collaborate and support one another. We’re always looking for outstanding people to join our mission!

About the Job

We’re looking for a Senior Manager of Search to own our paid search program on the Growth Marketing Team and lead how ButcherBox shows up across organic and AI-driven search. Most of your time will go to paid search: managing a significant budget across Google and Microsoft, driving new member growth against clear efficiency targets, and testing your way to better results. You’ll also own our SEO and AI search visibility program, working with an experienced specialist partner to set priorities, keep work moving, and make sure our organic efforts support the business.

Search is changing fast as AI reshapes how people discover brands. This role is a chance to manage the full search picture, paid, organic, and AI, at a moment when bringing those together matters more than ever. You’ll report to our Associate Director of Paid Digital and work closely with our CRO, creative, brand, and analytics teams.

This is a hybrid role ideal for someone who enjoys the flexibility of working from home 2-3 days a week, but gets value and energy from regular in person collaboration. When you come to the office you'll get to take advantage of catered lunch every Tuesday and Wednesday, unlimited coffee/tea/snacks, and all the events the Arsenal on the Charles campus has to offer (Goat yoga? Cupcake truck? Pumpkin decorating contest? You never know what will happen next!)

Department: Marketing

Reports To: Associate Director of Paid Search

Level: Individual Contributor, senior level

Base Salary: $122,00-136,000

Location: Watertown, MA (hybrid)

What You'll Do:

Paid search (~75%)

  • Own ButcherBox’s paid search program across Google and Microsoft Ads, including Search, Shopping, and Performance Max, with a seven-figure annual budget
  • Drive new member acquisition against CAC and payback targets through account structure, bidding strategy, query mining, and negative keyword management
  • Set brand vs. non-brand investment strategy and run incrementality tests (geo holdouts, brand search tests) to show where spend is actually working
  • Partner with the CRO team and creative on landing page and ad copy testing
  • Build forecasts and pacing plans, and report performance and insights to senior leadership
  • Test emerging formats and automation early, including AI Max and ads in AI Overviews and AI Mode

Organic and AI search program management (~25%)

  • Own the SEO and GEO roadmap and run the cadence with our specialist contractor: setting priorities, holding deliverables to deadlines, and challenging recommendations when the business case is weak
  • Get content, dev, and brand resources aligned and unblocked so organic work actually ships
  • Use paid query and conversion data to prioritize organic and AI search work, and manage overlap between paid and organic
  • Report on organic and AI visibility (how ButcherBox shows up in ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews) alongside paid, as one view of total search presence

What we’re looking for:

Must have

  • 5+ years hands-on managing paid search for a DTC, ecommerce, or subscription brand, with direct ownership of a seven-figure budget
  • Deep platform expertise in Google Ads and Microsoft Ads, and fluency in GA4 (or similar), attribution tradeoffs, and incrementality measurement
  • A track record of scaling new customer acquisition, not just optimizing for ROAS
  • Experience managing an agency or contractor to a roadmap, including times you pushed back on their recommendations
  • Working knowledge of SEO fundamentals and how AI search surfaces source and cite brands. You don’t need to be the strategist, but you need to ask sharp questions
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to drive cross-functional work without direct authority
  • Clear communication with senior stakeholders, translating performance into business decisions

Nice to have

  • Experience in subscription, food, or CPG
  • Hands-on exposure to AI visibility tools (e.g., Profound, Semrush AI toolkit)
  • Agency background supporting DTC brands

Why this role

  • Own the full search picture as paid, organic, and AI discovery converge, and shape how ButcherBox shows up across all three
  • Build GEO expertise alongside an experienced specialist partner, without starting the program from zero

Benefits
  • Health: medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, an employer-funded HSA, and short & long-term disability benefits
  • Financial: 401(k) with generous employer match
  • Annual bonus based on company performance
  • Time off: unlimited paid time off policy, 20 weeks parental leave, an executive team that encourages a good work/life balance
  • Personal growth: Annual Learning & Development stipend, and access to a range of personal and professional coaching solutions through BetterUp
  • Food: a free Custom Classic ButcherBox each month and weekly lunch reimbursement
  • Other: reimbursement for wellness activities, an exceptional EAP, fertility benefits, life insurance and more
