Product Design Lead

📣 A bit about the role:

Butternut Box is on the lookout for a Product Design Lead to steer our design team in delivering high quality digital experiences for our expanding customer base. This role is ideal for a proven designer eager to be in a leadership role who has strong convictions about design excellence.

In this role, you will manage a small team of senior designers, fostering their growth and championing the impact of good design throughout the business. Reporting to the Head of Product, you will co-develop the product vision and strategy, ensuring our designs meet the high standards our customers expect and love.

What you'll do:

  • Manage a team of senior designers, setting objectives that encourage innovation and high-quality outcomes.
  • You’ll report into the Head of Product and work with them to craft and implement a compelling product vision strategy that aligns with business goals and fosters excellent design decisions.
  • Advocate robust, user-centered design principles throughout the organisation, effectively communicating design direction and decisions to senior executives.
  • Though this role won’t sit on a sprint team, you should be willing and ready to dive into design work yourself, actively contributing to projects and demonstrating best practices in design execution.
  • Develop and refine our design processes and systems, ensuring they support effective, scalable design practices in line with our brand identity.
  • Utilise various design tools and methodologies to continuously enhance our product offerings based on user testing, research, and A/B testing feedback.

👋 A bit about you:

  • You have a strong, well-formed opinion about what good design is and are not shy about expressing and defending these views.
  • While extensive management experience is not required, you should be able to provide strong examples of effectively leading a team and fostering individual development.
  • Your background includes a solid track record in digital product design, ideally in the e-commerce space, demonstrating a deep understanding of integrating user needs with business objectives.
  • You’re comfortable and adaptable in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment, where agility and quick decision-making are key.
  • Excellent communication skills, adept at explaining complex design concepts and strategies to a broad audience.
  • Experienced in using Figma.
  • Hands-on approach to design, happy to lead by example in crafting user-centered solutions.
  • Obsessed with dogs. Naturally.
