Salary: £35,000

Hours: This is a full-time, Monday to Friday position, based on-site. The role follows standard office hours, and regular on-site presence (5 days per week) is required to support day-to-day operations and collaboration with our teams.

We are looking for someone with strong data skills, as well as a genuine interest in using data to drive meaningful sustainability improvements across our business.

As a Sustainability Data Analyst at Butternut Box, your day-to-day will be a dynamic blend of technical "detective work" and cross-functional collaboration. You’ll enjoy working through Google Sheets and ESG platforms, validating carbon and waste data flowing in from manufacturing, to ensure every recipe's footprint is accurately accounted for. You’ll also spend time telling the story that this data shows and strategising with SQL or Looker to build dashboards that translate complex environmental metrics into clear insights for the broader team.

Sustainability is embedded in our culture; you won't just be crunching numbers; you'll be proactively chasing data discrepancies with internal teams and modelling "what-if" scenarios to help the business identify exactly where it can reduce its impact further and faster.

  • Collect, validate, and manage sustainability-related data used for the calculation of our carbon footprint, energy consumption, waste, water usage and packaging metrics.
  • Become an Specialist in utilising our carbon accounting and ESG data platform, for data collection, reporting and scenario modelling of both carbon and other environmental data to predict future impact and define reduction strategies and goals.
  • Contribute to the calculation of carbon footprint assessments across our business activities and product carbon footprints for each of our recipes.
  • Ensure smooth data management by regularly maintaining automated feeds and uploading manual carbon and environmental data to our carbon accounting and ESG platform, working with internal teams to resolve any issues.
  • Distribution of monthly or annual data surveys and verification of data before final submission.
  • Contribute to the integration of any new data collection platforms from relevant areas of the business.
  • Validation of data collected on our carbon and ESG platform against other internal reporting systems to ensure alignment, with proactive follow-up and resolution with various data teams on any data quality or timing discrepancies.
  • Support tracking our carbon and environmental targets by identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement, while assisting in the preparation of regular sustainability and ESG reports and dashboards for both internal communication of sustainability performance and regulatory reporting.
  • Work with a wide range of teams across the business in all locations and take a proactive approach to following up on discrepancies or problems, including governing bodies Like EHO (Environmental Health Officer).
  • Look for opportunities to further improve processes and reporting.

👇 A bit about you

  • You will have a Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Environmental Science, Sustainability or a related field, or have gained relevant experience within this field.
  • Experience in data work, with an understanding of sustainability metrics and carbon accounting at both a business activity and product carbon footprint level, is beneficial.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Capability to navigate complex stakeholders, build relationships, and problem-solve with others.
  • Ability to learn new tools, systems, and subject matter quickly.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, customer-facing business environment.
  • Good planning, organisation and prioritisation skills to juggle multiple demands on time.
  • Flexibility around travelling and working out of different locations across the UK and Europe.

Technical Tools:

  • Strong proficiency in Google Sheets
  • Strong proficiency in Data visualisation tools (such as Looker)
  • SQL - nice to have
  • Sweep or other carbon data platforms - nice to have

📢 Our interview process:

  • Application review
  • Initial call (30 minutes): Introductory chat with our Talent Partner.
  • Technical interview (1 hour): This will be a remote call for the team to learn more about your skills and experience.These will begin w/c 27th April 2026
  • In person values interview (1 hour): In person interviews in our office at our Rudie’s/Ace’s Kitchen ( Blyth, Worksop) where you will meet with key stakeholders. You will be asked a blend of competency questions, values based questions and getting to know you personally.
