Legal Counsel, Commercial
Who are we?
Buyers Edge Platform stands at the forefront of revolutionizing the foodservice industry through technology, purchasing power and partnerships. We are dedicated to empowering operators across restaurants, hotels, healthcare, senior living, education and beyond with efficiency and unprecedented visibility into their spend. With a robust portfolio of over a dozen brands, our mission is clear: to reduce costs, streamline operations and drive growth for our clients.
This position can be based out of our Waltham, MA, Lake Worth, FL, or Chicago, IL offices on a hybrid schedule. We are unable to offer sponsorship for employment visas now or in the future.
The Role
We're looking for a Legal Counsel, Commercial to join our in-house legal team and take real ownership of the contracts that power our business. This role sits at the center of how deals get done at Buyers Edge Platform — drafting, negotiating and closing commercial agreements across every one of our divisions.
We're a lean legal team supporting a fast-growing company, so you can expect meaningful responsibility early, varied work across business units, and mentorship from senior counsel — without billable hours.
You won't be tucked away reviewing redlines in isolation. You'll be embedded with sales, product and operations as their day-to-day legal partner — the person they call when a deal needs to move, a term needs a second look, or a customer pushes back. Your job is to keep business moving while protecting the Company, and to know the difference between a risk worth flagging and a point worth conceding.
The right person is commercially minded, writes clearly, and focuses on practical solutions to business problems. You're comfortable exercising judgment and know when to escalate.
Your Impact
-
Draft and negotiate commercial agreements across DPN, SaaS, Supply Chain, Consulting, and ancillary foodservice verticals
-
Serve as a primary day-to-day legal point of contact for assigned contract types and business units, partnering with sales, product, and operations to keep deals moving and aligned to business objectives
-
Identify and mitigate legal risk in commercial transactions, developing negotiation positions that protect the Company while supporting business objectives
-
Support improvements to contract management processes, including adoption of new technology and template standardization
-
Contribute revisions to standard contract templates, tailored to the distinct needs of each business unit, under the direction of the Associate General Counsel and General Counsel
-
Stay current on regulations affecting the DPN, SaaS, and foodservice sectors, and ensure agreements comply with relevant laws and industry practice
-
Build capability in adjacent areas over time, including privacy matters, litigation support, and our active M&A pipeline, with supervision and support from senior counsel
What You Bring
-
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
-
Active license to practice law in good standing in any U.S. jurisdiction
-
2–4 years as a corporate, commercial, or transactional attorney, in-house or at a firm
-
Solid drafting and negotiation skills, and the judgment to know which points are worth fighting for
-
Strong analytical instincts, with demonstrated initiative, judgment, and discretion
-
Attention to detail and the ability to carry a project from start to finish
-
Ability to handle high volume and competing deadlines without sacrificing quality
-
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with internal stakeholders, external clients, and cross-functional partners at every level
-
Comfort in a lean legal team where initiative, flexibility, and a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude are essential
-
Familiarity with AI-assisted legal tools and good judgment about when to use them
-
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Nice-to-Have
- Exposure to GPO, SaaS, procurement, or foodservice contracting
- Experience with a contract lifecycle management (CLM) platform
- Any exposure to M&A diligence, data privacy, or multi-entity environments
