BCIM is a 100%-owned subsidiary of Bridgewater Associates, a premier global asset management firm founded in 1975 by Ray Dalio. Bridgewater focuses on delivering unique insight and partnership to the world’s most sophisticated investors. Our investment process is driven by a tireless pursuit to understand how the world’s markets and economies work — using cutting edge technology to validate and execute on timeless and universal investment principles.

BCIM’s mission is to be a premier asset manager in China, by generating consistent, reliable performance and sharing global macro and investment insights to help our clients meet their investment goals.  We combine Bridgewater’s global fundamental, systematic, diversified investment process, global macro understanding, and 40+ years of China and Asia economic research and markets experience to help our clients navigate China’s investment landscape.

Our Culture

Bridgewater is a community of independent thinkers who share a commitment to excellence. Our competitive edge is our unique culture that relies on truthful and transparent communication to ensure the best ideas win. Through this culture, we sharpen our understanding of the economy and asset markets, improve our decision making, and push our employees to fulfill their potential. By assembling high-performing teams and pushing them to engage in rigorous and thoughtful inquiry, we believe that we will produce great results for our clients and meaningful work and meaningful relationships for our employees. Our founder Ray Dalio has codified this culture in his book Principles.

Role Overview

BCIM’s Investment Team is on a mission to understand the fundamental drivers of economies and markets, turn that understanding into systematic investment strategies, and partner with our clients to solve their investment challenges.

Our team operates as a meritocracy and rewards performance, where you will be assessed on the quality of your ideas, given as much responsibility as you can handle, and progress as fast as your capabilities allow. There are few limits on your career path, and our goal is to help you find a role that you excel at and are passionate about. While all investment analysts must share a core of exceptional values and abilities and a passion for investing, your eventual paths may differ as your interests and skills evolve. Many rotate between roles over the course of your careers. Investment Analysts work across these investment areas:

  • Research and Portfolio Analytics: Expand our understanding of how economies work and convert that understanding into systematic investment strategies; understand how economic fundamentals affect the performance of our portfolio and strategy; partner with the commercial team to achieve business goals via delivering high quality investment and economic insights. You’ll be dealing with questions like: How can we systematically measure and predict the shifting drivers of China’s economy? How do economic actors behave and what drives their actions? How do policy and economic changes impact markets? How should investors position their portfolios to grow wealth reliably over time?
  • Account Management: Translate our market views into portfolios that achieve our return and risk targets. You’ll be dealing with questions like: What positions should we hold based on our research views? What instruments should we use to express our views in the highest efficiency, lowest cost way? How do positions interact in a portfolio, and how do we produce a high return-to-risk ratio while controlling drawdowns and other sources of portfolio risks?
  • Trading: Design optimal trading strategies and oversee their implementation. You’ll be dealing with questions like: How liquid are markets, around the world and across all asset classes? How should we measure and minimize transaction costs?  How do we minimize information leakage in trading? How should we evaluate counterparties?

In a nutshell, we are looking for people who:

  • Display a deep passion and curiosity for understanding complex systems, like markets and economies.
  • Can take original, independent perceptions and turn them into systematic investment ideas that solve challenging problems in markets and economies.
  • Exhibit different ways of thinking that push the frontiers of our collective understanding; creativity and diversity of thought and abilities is critical to our success.
  • Thrive in an environment where disagreements are resolved via logical, fact based, open-minded debate, such that the best ideas win out.
  • Thrive in an open, transparent, non-hierarchical environment where giving and receiving feedback is welcomed to constantly improve toward a high bar of excellence.
  • Is open to and capable of cross-functional development based on business needs.
  • For Senior Analyst roles, able to lead research projects and teams to improve the quality, reliability and efficiency of our investment systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with strong academic record.
  • Usually, candidates with 3+ years of relevant experience correspond to “Senior Investment Analyst”, while candidates with 1-3 year of relevant experience correspond to “Investment Analyst”.
  • Markets passion and research capabilities
    • Prefer experience in a relevant field (markets / investing, quantitative analysis, financial advisory, consulting, etc.), but not required.
    • Practical common sense and problem-solving skills, hypothesis driven approach that focuses on the most important drivers and fundamental cause-and-effect relationships.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Fluency in Mandarin and English.
