Overview of the Role 

  • The Category Analyst - Kroger will support the development and delivery of analytics and insights designed to help our clients grow their businesses across Kroger. This role will turn retailer, syndicated, shopper, and consumer data into clear, actionable recommendations across pricing, promotion, distribution, assortment, merchandising, and shelf placement. 
  • Working closely with our Kroger Business Managers and Insights team, the Category Analyst will support recurring reporting, business reviews, category reviews, new item presentations, and other strategic analyses. The ideal candidate is naturally curious, comfortable working with large datasets, and able to move beyond reporting what happened to help identify why it happened and what we should do next. 
  • Location: Hybrid - Cincinnati, OH 
  • Salary: $60,000-$70,000, based on experience, qualifications, and skills 
  • Travel: Approximately 5-10% for client presentations and team meetings

What You’ll Do at C.A. Fortune 

  • Analyze retailer POS, syndicated, shopper, and other data sources to identify trends, opportunities, and recommended actions across product, placement, pricing, promotion, and distribution. 
  • Develop fact-based business reviews, category reviews, topline reporting, and selling stories that translate data into clear insights and recommendations. 
  • Support account presentations related to new items, assortment, distribution opportunities, share of shelf, merchandising, and business performance. 
  • Utilize Kroger-specific systems and data, including POS and shopper behavior data, to develop retailer-specific analyses and recommendations. 
  • Track and monitor sales, distribution, assortment, and merchandising performance and identify opportunities to address distribution voids and quantify opportunity gaps. 
  • Conduct promotional and pricing analyses to help evaluate performance and inform future planning. 
  • Analyze shopper and consumer information to better understand purchase behavior and identify opportunities for our clients. 
  • Partner closely with Kroger Business Managers to support distribution priorities, sales opportunities, client needs, and retailer initiatives. 
  • Create, maintain, and improve recurring analytical tools, reporting, and resources that allow teams to quickly understand business performance, market trends, and opportunities. 
  • Assist in developing presentations and storylines that clearly communicate findings and recommendations to internal teams, clients, and retailer partners. 
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and share relevant learnings and best practices across the organization. 
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. 

What You Should Bring to the Table 

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Marketing, Analytics, Economics, or a related field preferred. 
  • 1+ years of experience in CPG, retail, category management, sales analytics, business analytics, or a related analytical role preferred. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the curiosity to dig into data and understand the root cause behind business performance. 
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills, with the ability to manipulate data and translate analysis into clear presentations and recommendations. 
  • Understanding of category management principles and concepts including pricing, promotion, assortment, distribution, merchandising, and shelf placement. 
  • Experience working with syndicated data such as Circana/IRI, NielsenIQ, and/or SPINS. 
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate analytical findings and complex concepts in a concise, business-friendly manner. 
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to work independently with general direction while also collaborating effectively as part of a broader sales and insights team. 

You Will Stand Out if  You Have

  • Experience working with Kroger or supporting Kroger-related analytics. 
  • Working knowledge of Kroger systems such as Market 6/OnDemand and 84.51° Stratum, including pulling and manipulating datasets. 
  • Experience using retailer POS and shopper data to identify business opportunities. 
  • Experience developing category reviews, business reviews, new-item analyses, or retailer selling stories. 
  • Experience identifying distribution voids, assortment opportunities, and other sources of incremental growth. 
  • Working knowledge of shopper/panel data and its primary use cases. 
  • Experience with data visualization platforms such as Power BI or Tableau. 
  • CPG experience within a sales or analytical organization, particularly within natural, specialty food, or beverage categories. 
  • Familiarity with Kroger terminology, reporting periods, processes, and ways of working.
