Senior/Principal Applied Data Scientist (Contract)

This is a contract position expected to last 3 months, with the possibility of extension for additional months or even a full time position. Expected commitment is full-time when on the contract.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior/Principal Data Scientist who thrives at the intersection of AI research, customer success, and engineering. You’ll help design intelligent agentic workflows, build novel document extraction pipelines, and support customers in deploying production-grade AI systems.

What You’ll Do

• Data science and solutions engineering to build and design agentic workflows
• Solve novel, complex data science problems in document classification and structured data extraction
• Write code to extract structured information from unstructured patient records
• Leverage deep technical expertise to support customers and troubleshoot complex issues
• Develop and expand a robust customer knowledge base to answer common questions, significantly reducing onboarding time for new customers.
• Work with the product team to prioritize the roadmap based on customer feedback
• Communicate findings to stakeholders in a clear and concise way
• Ensure privacy and Compliance standards (HIPAA, PHI/PII) are upheld throughout the ML lifecycle

About You

• Background in data science, agentic frameworks, machine learning, and engineering
• Strong programming skills in Python
• Deep experience extracting structured data from unstructured PDFs using frameworks like: DSPy, Pydantic, Trustcall, LangGraph, LangChain, LlamaIndex, and Docling
• Deep understanding of LLM models
• Work closely with subject matter experts to create and refine evaluations sets
• Experience working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and customer relationship management skills
• Strong grasp of the full MLOps lifecycle, including data engineering, training/evaluation, serving, and monitoring
• Proficiency in creating Docker containers
• Nice to haves: 
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and ideally Kubernetes
• Experience in Insurance and Healthcare Industry
• Familiarity with Bedrock and Anthropic models
• Experience working as part of a startup or lean team

Location:  

• The role is remote-friendly
• Expectations are that you will work and be available in EST timezone 

Compensation: 

• $12,000–$22,500 per month for the 3-month engagement, commensurate with experience and qualifications
• We’re happy to discuss range expectations early in the process
