Role overview

We're hiring a Web Designer focused on bringing web experiences to life. You'll partner closely with the Manager of Web Design, engineering, and cross-functional brand and product marketing partners to design and deliver across Calendly's website, Help center, and learning experiences.

Day to day, you'll split your time between general web design work (page design, responsive layouts, CMS components, Figma library maintenance) and motion-focused work (animated creative assets, scroll-driven experiences, and component interactions). The balance will shift depending on business needs, but motion is the differentiator in this role. Your superpower is crafting tasteful, performant motion that enhances clarity, engagement, and narrative flow while supporting business goals like comprehension, trust, and conversion.

You'll work primarily in Figma and Rive (or similar tool), helping maintain and evolve our design and motion systems with accessibility and scalability in mind. It's a highly collaborative web role for someone who enjoys balancing creative ambition with real-world constraints and measurable impact.

Key responsibilities

  • Support web design needs across Calendly's marketing site, Help Center, and learning experiences, including page design, responsive layouts, and CMS components
  • Animate creative assets: hero treatments, ambient backgrounds, and product concept visualizations using Rive or a similar tool
  • Design scroll-driven experiences (reveal on scroll, parallax, sticky steppers, progress indicators, narrative sequences) and component interactions
  • Storyboard for contractors: create clear motion briefs and references when directing external execution
  • Build CMS-ready components and help maintain Figma libraries
  • Collaborate on creating a new web motion system and co-own its ongoing evolution
  • Ensure accessibility and performance: reduced-motion variants, WCAG compliance
  • Design across breakpoints: collaborate on motion experiences across desktop, tablet, and mobile
  • Collaborate with engineering partners on implementation, accounting for feasibility and iterating on trade-offs as needed

Skills & qualifications

  • 5+ years of web design experience with a strong portfolio highlighting motion work, shipped scroll-based experiences, and motion system thinking
  • Figma expert: variables, component properties, auto layout, prototyping
  • Rive or equivalent experience creating motion assets and lightweight exports
  • Strong visual craft: typography, spacing, composition, timing, with restraint and taste
  • Asset creation from scratch: ability to design and animate visuals, stylize product UI for marketing contexts, and create motion-ready web assets
  • Ability to conceptualize how animation enhances product storytelling
  • Reduced-motion defaults, understanding of web constraints
  • Organized specs, rationale, and handoff documentation
  • Work collaboratively across disciplines and communicate design decisions clearly

Preferred

  • SaaS, B2B, or growth-stage tech company background, with exposure to both brand and performance marketing needs
  • Experience with working directly with engineering teams to implement designs
  • Actively using AI tools (or highly motivated to adopt them) to accelerate concepting, prototyping, and asset creation
  • Comfortable questioning assumptions and pushing stakeholders and team members toward better outcomes

Success Factors

  • Strong visual craft with restraint. Knows how to use motion to enhance an experience and when to leave it alone.
  • Fluent in web design fundamentals. Comfortable owning page design, responsive layouts, and CMS components across multiple properties.
  • Brings real depth in scroll-driven storytelling, animated assets, and interaction design with a portfolio that proves it.
  • Balances creative ambition with real-world constraints like performance, accessibility, reduced-motion defaults, and engineering feasibility.
  • Self-directed and organized. Can manage their own workload across multiple properties without constant oversight.
  • Collaborative and clear. Communicates design decisions with rationale, takes feedback constructively, and pushes stakeholders toward better outcomes when needed.
  • Advanced knowledge of working in Figma and Rive (or equivalent) at a production-ready level, not just concepting.
  • Thinks in systems. Approaches motion as a scalable, documented practice rather than one-off executions.
