The Research and Development (R&D) Tax Credit Senior Associate at Calvetti Ferguson supports clients in identifying and documenting qualified research activities and expenditures in accordance with Sections 41 and 174 of the Internal Revenue Code. This role involves analyzing technical and financial data, conducting interviews with client personnel, and preparing detailed calculations and documentation to substantiate R&D tax credit claims. As part of a collaborative and client-focused team, the Senior Associate helps deliver high-quality tax solutions that align with Calvetti Ferguson’s commitment to exceptional service.
Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive project work plans and timelines to ensure timely delivery of key milestones.
- Lead and manage multiple engagements concurrently, overseeing client interviews, data analysis, and coordination of internal and external resources.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for client personnel across operations, finance, accounting, and engineering functions.
- Evaluate financial records and technical documentation to uncover opportunities and quantify client value.
- Prepare and validate R&D credit calculations using proprietary software tools.
- Address client inquiries promptly and ensure deliverables are met with accuracy and professionalism.
- Interpret and synthesize large datasets, particularly accounting cost data, to support tax credit eligibility.
- Draft and refine detailed technical reports and project summaries.
- Determine qualifying expenditures under Sections 174 and 41 through in-depth expense analysis.
- Partner with the internal tax team to develop and implement optimal tax planning strategies.
- Conduct research on evolving tax regulations and industry-specific developments.
- Champion a client-first approach to deliver an exceptional service experience.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum of 3 years of R&D tax credit experience required.
- Preferred 1-2 years of experience with project management and client management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Ability to articulate and relay information effectively and efficiently.
- High sense of urgency with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with company and client information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
