Role Summary

As the Sr. Buyer, you will play a pivotal role in the procurement process, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of goods and services essential for the organization's operations. Your responsibilities will include supplier management, cost negotiation, order planning, placement and management, and maintaining optimal inventory levels. This role will establish and maintain supplier relationships to ensure commitments and quality objectives are met. This position will be based at our Pleasanton, CA headquarters.

In This Role, You Will:

  • Negotiate and procure materials, components, equipment, supplies, and services necessary for the efficient operation of the company.
  • Plan, execute, and monitor purchase orders to meet production requirements employing such techniques but not limited to Material Requirements Planning, Kanban, Blanket POs, and Reschedules.
  • Recommend appropriate inventory levels, considering cost, storage, supplier, quality, usage rate, and lead-time considerations. Monitor inventory levels to prevent stockouts and excess stock situations.
  • Execute purchase order pull-ins, push-outs, cancellations, and expedites at minimal cost as required.
  • Process returns to suppliers, ensuring applicable credits are applied when applicable.
  • Review forecasts with key stakeholders, integrating feedback and ensuring forecast alignment.
  • Identify cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Monitor past and current supplier performance. Ensures compliance with the released specifications and contracts. Escalates issues or supplier problems.
  • Visit suppliers as necessary.
  • Participate in supplier sourcing, selecting, assessments & audits with the Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE).
  • Maintain and update supplier files as required.
  • Work with receiving, finance, and suppliers to reconcile discrepancies in receiving and invoicing.
  • Communicate fully with others who have a need to know. Be informative. Communicate in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and/or provide data for the department’s key performance indicators.
  • Create, improve, and follow purchasing business processes and work instructions. Drive transaction discipline. Adhere to purchasing policies and the company's business standards of conduct.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.

Who You Will Report To:

  • Sr. Manager, Supply Chain

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or equivalent Buyer/Purchasing experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience supporting a manufacturing setting; previous medical device manufacturing experience.
  • Experience in production control, material demand planning, or supply chain management environment.
  • Possesses strong process and technical familiarity with modern ERP/MRPII or an automated purchasing system.
  • Work location: Pleasanton, CA (on-site)
  • Travel: <5%
  • Full-time employment.
  • Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical teams; Develop effective communication with Engineering, Manufacturing, Customer Support, R&D, Finance and suppliers.
  • Must have advanced level skills in Excel (pivot tables, macros, managing large volumes of data).
  • Must be highly organized and able to balance multiple priorities appropriately.
  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented, patient and diligent.

Role and level determine our salary ranges. Your position within that range will depend on your job-related knowledge, skills, experience, relevant education, training, and certifications. In addition to those factors, we also examine internal equity as well as consider the current market rate, and the title may be assessed one level lower or higher accordingly. After you join Calyxo, your performance, contributions, and results, along with the business and organizational needs, will affect your base salary. The base salary range for this full-time position is between $111,000 - $131,000 plus equity and benefits.
