The Manufacturing Intern role provides hands-on exposure to core manufacturing engineering functions within a regulated production environment. This position supports process improvement, validation activities, tooling and fixture development, and manufacturing documentation. The intern will work closely with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality, R&D, and Operations to support efficient, compliant, and high-quality production. This role offers a practical learning experience that builds technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and an understanding of how engineering decisions impact manufacturing performance and product quality.
In This Role, You Will:
- Design and qualify (IQ/OQ/PQ) manufacturing fixtures, tools, and equipment.
- Support/oversee builds to provide product for testing of new designs.
- Identify and troubleshoot process-related issues.
- Prepare and maintain documentation associated with the manufacturing line and product development.
- Design and validate test methods, conduct testing, and write protocols/reports.
- Implement process improvement projects to improve product quality, decrease cost, and improve product performance.
- Work closely with R&D, Quality, and other functional areas to design and develop processes.
- Ensure product quality and support regulatory compliance.
- Perform other duties as required.

Requirements:
- Education: Recent graduate or current junior/senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related field
- Medical device internship experience desired
- Work location: Pleasanton, CA
- Travel: Minimal (~5%)
- Full time employment
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and Microsoft Office
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

The Instruments Engineering team is a highly energetic and actively growing team that is responsible for developing and ultimately driving Calyxo’s instruments and accessories through to launch. As a Mechanical Engineering Intern on the Instruments team, you will support the design and development of new solutions for both released and next-generation critical components and accessories, integrating these solutions alongside the vision, sensors, and software R&D teams. You will be immersed in a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary team, teaming up with cross-functional partners including Manufacturing and Quality to bring novel concepts through all phases of development to commercialization.
In This Role, You Will:
- Partner with an engineer to design, develop, and prototype new ideas.
- Design and fabricate testing or assembly fixtures.
- Develop test methods to evaluate engineering prototypes.
- Perform relevant component or device testing and associated data analysis.
- Create and implement documentation, including drawings, protocols, and reports.
- Work closely with Manufacturing, Quality, and other functional areas to progress projects.
- Perform other duties as required.

- Sr. R&D Engineer
Requirements:
- Education: Recent graduate or current junior/senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related field
- Work location: Pleasanton, CA
- Travel: 0-10% travel required
- Full time employment
- Ability to take a data-driven approach to methodically solve problems
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills; ability to present and convey ideas to an audience of mixed backgrounds
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Experience with SolidWorks; intermediate-level highly preferred
- Experience with Minitab
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds; sit for up to 8 hours/day; work with hazardous materials
- Compliance with relevant county, state, and Federal rules regarding vaccinations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with hands-on prototyping (machine shop, hand tools, 3D printing) highly preferred
- Previous medical device or other regulated industry internship experience

- Competitive hourly rate of $28/hr (undergrad) - $30.00/hr (graduate students)
