THINGS YOU WILL DO
Your main responsibilities include ensuring the accuracy and integrity of accounting, valuation, P&L, and Balance Sheet reporting for the Global Markets Business. The role is responsible for ensuring that trading activities are appropriately reflected in the financial statements in accordance with IFRS, internal accounting policies, and regulatory requirements, while maintaining a robust control environment over financial reporting and valuation processes.
Main Duties:
- Preparing and reviewing daily and monthly Product Control accounting and reporting activities for trading businesses.
- Ensuring accurate accounting treatment of trading products, fair value adjustments, accruals, reserves, and other valuation-related entries in accordance with IFRS and internal accounting policies.
- Preparing and reviewing P&L and Balance Sheet reconciliations, investigating breaks, and ensuring timely resolution of accounting discrepancies.
- Performing detailed analysis and explanation of daily and monthly P&L movements, Balance Sheet variances, and valuation adjustments.
- Overseeing preparation and review of IPV (Independent Price Verification), FVA (Fair Value Adjustment), PVA (Prudent Valuation) and FVL (Fair Value Levelling).
- Supporting month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial close processes for Global Markets.
- Working closely with Financial Control to ensure accurate financial reporting and regulatory disclosures.
- Supporting implementation of new accounting standards, Product Control methodologies, and control enhancements.
- Preparing management information and financial analysis for senior management and governance committees.
- Partnering with Front Office, Financial Control, Market Risk, Quantitative Analytics, Finance, Operations and IT to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial reporting.
- Identifying opportunities to automate and improve accounting and Product Control processes.
Requirements
- University degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related quantitative discipline.
- Strong understanding of IFRS accounting principles, financial reporting, and accounting for financial instruments.
- Knowledge of Product Control, financial accounting, or Financial Control processes within an investment banking environment.
- Experience in P&L production, Balance Sheet substantiation, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Good understanding of derivatives, securities, and other traded financial instruments.
- Knowledge of fair value accounting and valuation methodologies will be an advantage.
- Advanced Excel is a must; knowledge of VBA, SQL or Python would be an advantage.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently while building effective relationships across Finance and Front Office functions.
- Professional qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA) or CFA/FRM (completed or in progress) will be an asset.
