Managing Principal – Banking Transformation & Migration

Location: New York City / Charlotte | Practice Area: Banking & Payments | Type: Permanent

Lead complex banking transformations. Navigate large-scale technology migrations. Help shape the future of banking through strategic leadership and exceptional program delivery.

The Role

At Capco, we're looking for an experienced Managing Principal to help lead and grow our Banking & Payments practice, with a particular focus on large-scale banking transformations, technology migrations, and complex change programs.

You'll work with leading financial institutions to navigate significant business and technology change, helping clients modernize their banking platforms, migrate critical systems, and deliver strategic transformation initiatives that achieve measurable business outcomes.

This is a senior consulting leadership role that combines banking industry knowledge, program delivery expertise, and strong stakeholder management. While an understanding of banking technology and systems is important, the focus is on leading transformation rather than hands-on technical implementation.

You'll play a key role in strengthening client relationships, identifying commercial opportunities, and guiding multidisciplinary teams through complex transformation journeys.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead large-scale banking transformations: Provide strategic direction and end-to-end delivery oversight for complex banking modernization, platform replacement, and technology migration programs, ensuring alignment with business objectives and measurable outcomes.
  • Oversee complex migration programs: Guide the planning and execution of large-scale banking system and data migrations, including migration strategy, operational readiness, testing coordination, cutover planning, and transition to business-as-usual operations.
  • Connect business and technology: Work closely with senior business, operations, and technology stakeholders to translate strategic objectives into achievable transformation roadmaps, ensuring effective coordination across delivery teams, technology partners, and third-party vendors.
  • Manage delivery, governance, and risk: Establish effective program governance, manage dependencies and delivery risks, oversee budgets and milestones, and provide clear executive reporting to support informed decision-making throughout the transformation lifecycle.
  • Grow client relationships and consulting capabilities: Build trusted relationships with senior banking executives, identify new business opportunities, contribute to commercial proposals, and develop high-performing consulting teams that deliver meaningful client outcomes.

What We’re Looking For

  • Consulting & Financial Services Experience: 10+ years of experience in consulting and financial services, with a track record of delivering complex banking transformations and strategic initiatives.
  • Banking Transformation & Migration Expertise: Experience overseeing large-scale banking modernization programs, platform replacements, system migrations, and legacy technology transformations.
  • Program Delivery: Ability to manage complex programs, including governance, budgets, risks, vendors, and delivery milestones.
  • Business & Technology Understanding: Good knowledge of banking operations and technology, with the ability to connect business needs with technology delivery.
  • Stakeholder & Commercial Leadership: Experience engaging senior executives, managing client relationships, and contributing to go-to-market strategies, business development, and new consulting opportunities.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience delivering core banking modernization, payments transformation, digital banking migration, or enterprise-wide banking platform replacement programs.
  • Familiarity with banking migration approaches, including phased migrations, parallel runs, data conversion, cutover planning, and post-migration stabilization.
  • Experience working with major banking technology vendors, systems integrators, and third-party delivery partners.
  • Knowledge of Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid program delivery methodologies, including experience adapting delivery approaches to complex banking environments.
  • Experience supporting business development, developing client propositions, and expanding consulting relationships within major financial institutions.
