We pride ourselves on revolutionizing an outdated process with a product that's adopted 4x more than previous solutions. One executive called CapIntel "the most intuitive platform I’ve used in almost 20 years in financial services.”
As one of Canada's fastest-growing wealthtech companies, CapIntel is expanding at an unprecedented pace. Our relentless commitment to innovation drives us to build a dynamic team, strengthening our ability to impact the wealth industry landscape in 2025 and beyond.
About the Role
We are hiring a Senior Software Developer to take ownership of reliability within our Platform Team. In this role, you will design and build the internal tools that keep our systems resilient, measurable, and dependable.
By creating frameworks for automated checks, observability, and reliability testing, you will give our teams the confidence to move quickly without sacrificing stability. This is an opportunity to shape how we approach reliability as we scale, ensuring that our software consistently delivers at the level our clients expect.
What You’ll Do
- Build reliability tooling: Design and implement internal tools that automate reliability checks and support testing of critical user journeys.
- Develop automated probes: Create and maintain synthetic tests that replicate client workflows to validate system health across environments.
- Enhance observability: Build features that surface and interpret logs, metrics, and traces to expose RED (Rate, Error, Duration) metrics for product features.
- Promote reliability standards: Embed Service Level Indicators (SLIs), Objectives (SLOs), and Agreements (SLAs) into engineering practices and align them with non-functional requirements.
- Analyze and improve: Partner with development teams to investigate failures, identify root causes, and evolve our processes to reduce recurrence and improve MTTR and MTBF.
- Collaborate across functions: Work closely with Architects, Developers, Product Managers, and the Platform Team to ensure reliability insights are actionable and transparent.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong software development skills: Proven ability to build scalable, maintainable codebases, ideally with experience in TypeScript, test automation frameworks, GitHub Actions, and AWS.
- Observability expertise: Hands-on experience building systems that surface actionable reliability data through logs, metrics, and traces.
- Automation expertise: Skilled in creating probes, synthetic tests, or internal test frameworks that simulate real-world usage scenarios.
- Understanding of SRE principles: Knowledge of RED metrics, SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs, and how they connect to business outcomes.
- Analytical mindset: Ability to turn raw system data into clear, actionable insights that drive reliability improvements.
- Collaboration and communication: Comfortable working across engineering and business teams to align on goals and share findings effectively.
Bonus Experience
- Designed tools or frameworks that directly improve reliability, including automation or monitoring (e.g., DataDog).
- Built or maintained reliable cloud infrastructure using AWS and Infrastructure-as-Code tools (e.g., Terraform, CDK).
- Familiarity with incident management, postmortems, and continuous improvement practices.
The Interview Process
- 30-minute interview with Talent Acquisition
- 60-minute technical interview with two members of Engineering leadership.
- 60-minute experience deep dive with the Director of Platform Engineering.
