Position Purpose
The Loan Operations Compliance Specialist is an individual contributor responsible for performing independent quality control reviews, regulatory data validation, and audit support activities for commercial loan products. This role ensures the accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance of loan data and documentation across origination, servicing, collateral reporting, and regulatory submissions. The position serves as a technical subject matter resource and works collaboratively across Loan Operations, Commercial Lending, Compliance, Treasury, and Finance to support audit readiness and regulatory expectations.
Position Responsibilities
- Perform quality control reviews of commercial loan data and documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements
- Review and validate loan coding, including loan purpose, collateral, property type, lien position, geography, and borrower attributes
- Identify, document, and track data discrepancies, exceptions, and control issues; support investigation and resolution efforts with internal partners
- Maintain clear audit trails and supporting documentation for all quality control and validation activities
- Support internal audits, external audits, and regulatory examinations by providing documentation and data validation evidence
- Maintain accurate geocoding, census tract, and MSA data for applicable loan records
- Validate commercial loan data related to HMDA, CRA, and community development lending within loan origination systems, core systems, and reporting tools
- Reconcile loan level data between loan systems and regulatory or collateral reporting templates
- Identify and escalate discrepancies affecting regulatory reporting or collateral eligibility.
- Execute established QC controls and procedures and support documentation of control processes.
- Work closely with Loan Operations, Loan Servicing, Commercial Lending, Compliance, Treasury, and Finance teams to research and resolve quality control findings
- Communicate findings clearly and professionally, including documenting root cause and recommended corrective actions
- Serve as a subject matter resource for commercial loan quality control and regulatory data questions
- Execute quality control workflows in accordance with documented procedures and regulatory expectations
- Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance data accuracy, consistency, and efficiency
- Stay current on regulatory changes impacting commercial lending and loan data reporting
Minimum Education & Experience
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience in loan operations, loan servicing, quality control, audit, or regulatory data support within a financial institution
- Strong understanding of commercial loan documentation, loan systems, and lending workflows
- High attention to detail with strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Ability to analyze data, identify discrepancies, and support resolution
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel
Technical Knowledge and Skills
- Experience with commercial, consumer, mortgage, or specialty lending products.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (e.g., FDIC, OCC, CFPB, or state banking regulations).
- Experience supporting audits or regulatory compliance examinations
Compensation
- Base Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000 annually. Final determination of where you are at in the salary range is based on numerous factors such as geographical location, relevant experience, skill set, education, and ability to meet qualifications within the job description.
- Additional Compensation: This role will include a yearly annual target bonus based on individual performance.
Working Arrangements
- This is a hybrid role expected to work in office. This person will ideally sit out of our Rockville, MD headquarters location
