Special Situations Senior Associate, Policy & Investment Analyst

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Associate to join our Special Situations team. This individual will play a critical role in supporting the development of differentiated investment insights across areas such as distressed debt, labor and telecom policy, and financially challenged municipalities. The Senior Associate will work closely with the team lead to originate and shape high-conviction investment theses through rigorous policy, regulatory, and credit analysis.

This role requires direct engagement with a broad array of stakeholders including policymakers, regulators, industry experts, and institutional investors. The ideal candidate will bring a unique combination of analytical rigor, policy fluency, and market intuition, along with a demonstrated ability to generate forward-looking perspectives on complex credit and policy developments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with senior team members to originate, research, and articulate high-conviction investment ideas rooted in policy and credit market analysis.

  • Conduct primary research and maintain ongoing relationships with legislative, regulatory, and industry sources.

  • Monitor and evaluate regulatory, legislative, and credit-related developments impacting debt markets.

  • Contribute to written research products that communicate differentiated viewpoints to institutional investors.

  • Serve as a thought partner to internal and external stakeholders by delivering clear, concise, and actionable insights.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrated ability to distill complex policy and credit issues into investment-relevant frameworks.

  • A strategic thinker with the intellectual agility to challenge consensus and articulate contrarian views.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional presence, with the ability to engage credibly with senior policymakers and investors.

  • A high degree of initiative and autonomy, combined with a collaborative mindset.

  • Deep interest in the intersection of public policy, credit markets, and investing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a top-tier institution required; advanced degree (e.g., JD, MPP, MBA) a plus.

  • Minimum of 2–5 years of relevant experience in investment research, policy analysis, consulting, banking, or a related discipline.

  • Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Excel and data-driven analysis.

  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required.
