Technical Director Role Overview:

Peak Energy is seeking a Technical Director to lead engineering, project delivery, and O&M (Operation and Maintenance) for our growing renewable energy portfolio in the Philippines. This role will oversee technical execution for greenfield solar Utility projects and Roof top/ C&I Projects managing all technical aspects from the Project Development stage to end of Asset lifecycle.  The Technical Director will support equally the different Departments and functions in the Philippines and report to the Regional Head of Project Delivery. He will manage a local technical team of up to 10 professionals.

You will play a pivotal role in shaping Peak Energy’s success in the Philippines by ensuring projects are delivered safe, on time, on budget, and to world-class standards while supporting early-stage development and driving operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering

  • Enforce standard technical specifications for solar PV, transmission lines, and substations.
  • Apply value engineering principles to optimize cost, performance, and sustainability
  • Drive creative problem-solving and innovative design approaches for complex technical challenges
  • Ensure integration of latest technologies and best practices in renewable energy systems
  • Ensure engineering designs, drawings, and technical documentation are reviewed and approved internally and externally
  • Coordinate grid interconnection studies and compliance with local utility requirements
  • Collaborate effectively with the PEAK ENERGY engineering centers to leverage global expertise and ensure seamless design integration

Project Management

  • Oversee construction and commissioning of solar PV plants, transmission lines, and substations.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and risk mitigation strategy.
  • Utilize advanced project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, or equivalent) for planning, scheduling, and resource allocation
  • Prepare and deliver regular progress reports to regional leadership and JV partners
  • Coordinate with EPC contractors and monitor progress against milestones.

Operations & Maintenance

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive O&M strategy for utility-scale and distributed generation assets including hiring local O&M Manager in country
  • Establish preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize asset availability and performance.
  • Monitor plant performance using SCADA and advanced analytics; identify and resolve technical issues proactively in combination with our Central Asset Management team in India
  • Manage spare parts inventory, warranties, and vendor relationships to minimize downtime.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce O&M costs and improve reliability
  • Oversee third-party service providers and ensure adherence to SLAs

Sales Support

  • Act as a technical advisor during early-stage project development to ensure feasibility and optimize design for commercial success
  • Provide accurate technical input for proposals, including system design, grid connection, and cost estimates in coordination with our local team and PEAK ENERGY Engineering Center
  • Collaborate with PS&M (C&I) and UPP teams during early-stage project development.
  • Participate in customer meetings and presentations, explaining technical solutions and differentiators if requested
  • Assist in risk assessment for early-stage projects, highlighting technical and operational risks
  • Support M&A activities by evaluating technical aspects of target assets, including plant performance, grid compliance, and O&M requirement
  • Prepare technical reports and recommendations for investment committees during acquisition processes

HSE & Quality

  • Develop and enforce Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards across all projects
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations and international best practices
  • Implement robust Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) processes during design, construction, and operations.
  • Drive a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the technical team and contractors

Contract Management

  • Lead technical evaluation, contract negotiation and management of EPC tenders.
  • Ensure favorable terms and risk mitigation in all technical agreements
  • Negotiate with bidders to secure competitive and technically sound solutions
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of FIDIC and other international contract forms to ensure compliance and risk mitigation.

Leadership

  • Act as a senior leader capable of running the technical aspects of the business.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing technical team.
  • Lead career development initiatives, including succession planning and growth opportunities within the technical team.
  • Manage recruitment and hiring for technical roles to ensure team capability and diversity.
  • Coach and develop team members, providing regular feedback and guidance.
  • Provide strategic direction and ensure alignment with regional objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil); Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years in renewable energy with proven experience in solar PV, transmission lines, substations, and battery storage.
  • Track record of delivering at least 200 MW of renewable projects.
  • Ability to implement project controls, reporting systems, and risk management framework
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) for reporting and analysis
