Human Resources Associate (Temp/Contractor)

Caribou Biosciences is a leading clinical-stage CRISPR genome-editing biopharmaceutical company dedicated to developing transformative therapies for patients with devastating diseases. Our next-generation genome-editing technology enables superior precision to develop cell therapies that are armored to potentially improve activity against diseases. We believe the future of cell therapy is off-the-shelf, and we are advancing our pipeline of off-the-shelf, or allogeneic, cell therapies from our CAR-T cell therapy platform as readily available treatments for patients with hematologic malignancies and autoimmune diseases.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized HR Associate to join our team on a contract basis through December 2024, with a possibility to extend. In this hybrid role, you will support various HR administrative functions including onboarding and offboarding, corporate event coordination, recruitment, and providing administrative assistance to the HR team. You will play a critical part in the seamless execution of HR operations, contributing to the success of company-wide initiatives. This position offers exposure to a broad range of HR functions and provides an opportunity to develop and refine skills in a fast-paced, innovative environment. Onsite presence is required up to 3 days a week at our Berkeley office.

The ideal candidate is flexible, thrives in a dynamic work environment, and can manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines. Additionally, this role requires strong communication and stakeholder management skills, as you will work closely with new hires, employees, internal HR team members, and external vendors.

Key Responsibilities:

Onboarding & Offboarding Support

  • Manage the onboarding schedule for new hires
  • Enter new hire information into BambooHR and ensure accurate and timely record-keeping
  • Prepare and send offer letters and related documentation
  • Coordinate onboarding communications, including emails to the onboarding team
  • Assist with termination paperwork and offboarding procedures

Administrative Support

  • Provide admin support for contracts, purchase orders (POs), and expense reporting
  • Support the Chief People Officer (CPO) with light calendar management and leadership team expense reports
  • Assist with preparing HR meeting agendas, capturing meeting minutes, and follow-up tasks
  • Serve as a key point of contact for stakeholders, including new hires, internal HR team members, and external vendors

Corporate Events & Employee Engagement

  • Lead the planning and execution of company events, including employee birthdays, anniversary celebrations, and community service activities.
  • Ensure smooth coordination and communication for employee engagement initiatives

Recruiting Support

  • Coordinate interview scheduling and candidate communications
  • Provide requisition support for HR and hiring managers, ensuring accurate and timely updates in recruiting systems

HR Operations

  • Manage employee files and ensure data accuracy
  • Support and maintain the spot award program, tracking nominations and processing awards
  • Update organizational charts as needed
  • Oversee documentation management for HR records and initiatives
  • Manage and distribute company swag to employees and candidates
  • Assist with other HR projects as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Human Resources or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in HR support or administrative roles
  • Experience with BambooHR or similar HRIS systems preferred
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Visio is preferred
  • Pass a background and credit check due to the sensitive nature of our data

Nice-to-Have:

  • Previous biotech experience a plus
  • Experience with Visio or other diagramming tools
  • Project management experience is a plus
  • Prior recruiting experience is a plus
  • Experience with Concur or other expense management software
  • Coupa or other procurement software is preferred
  • Experience with contract management software is a plus

Additional Information:

  • This is a contract role through December 2024, which may be extended depending on need of the department
  • This is a hybrid position with onsite requirements of up to 3 days a week in our Berkeley, CA office, with the flexibility to work remotely on other days
  • Occasional travel to other event locations may be required

This position is for a temporary or contract employee who will not be directly employed by Caribou Biosciences. Instead, the individual will be an employee of a third-party staffing firm, and their work activities will be managed by the Caribou team. As a temporary/contract employee, you will collaborate closely with Caribou’s internal teams and contribute to our mission while reporting and getting supported by the staffing firm.
