Embedded Systems Engineer
Carillon Technologies is pioneering breakthrough optical and RF communications technologies through its ReflecTek, OTenna and HOBS technologies. These technologies will enable affordable direct-to-device (e.g. phone, tablet) satellite communication, low-cost optical communication for homes and communities, and both space-to-space and space-to-ground optical communication.
We are looking for a talented Embedded Systems Engineer with strong software development skills to join our multidisciplinary team. You will be responsible for developing, testing, and deploying embedded software to control electrically tuned antennas and other adaptive RF hardware systems.
The ideal candidate is highly proficient in low-level coding, familiar with embedded platforms, and excited to work hands-on with innovative hardware. They will thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy the opportunity to continuously learn new skills.
Responsibilities:
- Support development of Carillon’s proprietary electronically steerable RF and optical antenna technologies.
- Develop embedded software and firmware to control electronically tuned antennas and RF hardware.
- Interface with low-level hardware components, sensors, and tunable elements.
- Utilize platforms such as Raspberry Pi, ARM-based SoCs, or microcontrollers for system control.
- Collaborate with electrical and RF engineers to integrate hardware and software subsystems.
- Create robust, modular code for real-time control and diagnostics.
- Work effectively with vendors and subcontractors to ensure sourcing of required components and subsystems.
- Identify, track, and mitigate risks associated with development and production activities.
- Maintain appropriate document and version control procedures.
- Support various aspects of technical project planning, including designs, proposals, cost estimates, schedules and technical interface meetings throughout the program lifecycle.

- Experience with developing custom hardware drivers.
- Experience working with Linux-based embedded platforms (e.g., Raspberry Pi).
- Familiarity with SoC architectures, board-level integration, and hardware debugging.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in embedded systems development including coursework or industry experience.
- Experience in C/C++ and Python for embedded applications.
- Strong foundation in signal processing theory, including Fourier and statistical signal analysis.
- Proficient in MATLAB and/or Python for algorithm development and data analysis.
- Familiarity with scientific libraries and frameworks such as NumPy, SciPy, OpenCV, or Scikit-learn.
- Experience working with image datasets and RF signals (e.g., radar, communications, or microscopy data).
- Knowledge of filtering, denoising, feature extraction, and classification techniques.
- Knowledge of mathematical concepts such as linear algebra, Fourier transform, and/or matrix transformation.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and collaborate across multiple teams.
Contractual Requirements
- Ability to handle data in compliance with U.S. export control laws.
