Electrical Engineer III

New Haven

Carillon Technologies is pioneering breakthrough optical and RF communications technologies through its ReflecTek, OTenna and HOBS technologies. These technologies will enable affordable direct-to-device (e.g. phone, tablet) satellite communication, low-cost optical communication for homes and communities, and both space-to-space and space-to-ground optical communication.

We are seeking an Electronics Engineer to support the design, development, and testing of advanced electronics systems. This role focuses on the development of digital and analog circuitry, microprocessor integration, and PCB-level design. The ideal candidate is hands-on, eager to learn, and passionate about building reliable, high-performance systems from the ground up.

Responsibilities:

  • Support development of Carillon’s proprietary RF and optical antenna technologies.
  • Design and develop analog and digital electronic circuits for embedded systems.
  • Utilize platforms such as Raspberry Pi, ARM-based SoCs, or microcontrollers for system control.
  • Create schematics and multilayer PCB layouts using industry-standard EDA tools.
  • Perform hardware bring-up, debugging, and functional validation using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.).
  • Implement and troubleshoot communication interfaces such as SPI, I²C, UART, and GPIO.
  • Create robust, modular code for real-time control and diagnostics.
  • Support documentation and revision control throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Design and development of antenna components, subassemblies, and final assembly.
  • Work effectively with vendors and subcontractors to ensure sourcing of required components and subsystems.
  • Support various aspects of technical project planning, including designs, proposals, cost estimates, schedules and technical interface meetings throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Identify, track, and mitigate risks associated with development and production activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to EMI/EMC design considerations.
  • Knowledge of RF communications concepts such as impedance matching, antenna theory, and signal to noise analysis.
  • Experience with photonics systems and devices.
  • Project experience in relevant electronics work.
  • Familiarity with revision control tools (e.g., Git) and documentation practices.
  • Knowledge of beam steering architectures for commercial and military applications.
  • Knowledge of at least one of the following: C, C++, VHDL, or Verilog design.
  • Eligibility for DOD SECRET Clearance.
  • Knowledge of custom driver architectures to control LCD displays or digital micromirror devices.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field with 3+ years of experience.
  • Extensive experience with mixed signal electronic PCB design and fabrication.
  • Knowledge of programming microprocessor-based controllers and embedded systems.
  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout software (e.g., Altium Designer, or OrCAD).
  • Experience with serial communication protocols, especially SPI and I²C.
  • Hands-on experience with lab instrumentation and test/debug procedures.
  • Strong foundation in signal processing theory, including Fourier and statistical signal analysis.
  • Experience with test automation using programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, or LabVIEW.
  • Proficiency in Python or MATLAB for electrical signal processing.
  • Ability to handle data in compliance with U.S. export control laws.
  • Travel: Minimal (5%-15%)

Salary Range: $105,000-$145,000

Benefits Include: Health Insurance, Dental Insurance, Vision Insurance, 401k Match, PTO
