The Team You'll Work With
The Frontend Platform team is the core infrastructure team that underpins the entire frontend experience at Carta. We maintain the systems, including our monorepo and other key FE repositories, that enable hundreds of engineers to build and ship high-quality, modern frontend applications. Our mantra is: "Create a development experience that people will miss when they leave”. FEP drives platform-level initiatives, sets best practices in frontend development, and elevates engineering velocity and experience across Carta, ensuring our applications reflect modern standards and scalable development techniques.
The Problems You'll Solve
As a Senior Software Engineer II on the Frontend Platform (FEP) team, you will:
- Design, evolve, and maintain the frontend monorepo, ensuring scalable foundations for all Carta applications.
- Drive platform-level improvements and engineering upgrades, including page performance, dependency management, and major React version migrations efforts—that positively impact the whole company, not just a single product.
- Steer the AI-assisted development strategy and for frontend applications, taking into account best practices
- Develop and optimize build tooling (e.g., Rspack, Playwright), empowering frontend teams to deliver faster, more reliable releases
- Foster best practices in frontend infrastructure, collaborating with engineers across Carta to ensure high-quality, reusable platform solutions.
About You
We are seeking a highly experienced, platform-focused frontend engineer ready to drive significant, company-wide impact. You should be able to demonstrate a track record of solving complex scaling challenges in large engineering organizations.
- Extensive Monorepo Experience. You have deep, hands-on experience working on and maintaining large-scale frontend monorepos and developing the underlying tooling (e.g. Nx / Rush, pnpm, vite, storybook, eslint).
Platform & Scale. You have previously worked on a dedicated platform or infrastructure team at a company with an engineering organization of 100+ engineers. - Deep React Knowledge. You have a history of advanced contributions to a React-based ecosystem. You are well versed in modern React development paradigms.
Global Improvements. You have demonstrated leadership in driving platform-level improvements that affect all applications, such as significant page performance gains, build time reduction, or dependency upgrade initiatives. - Frontend DevOps. You possess a strong command of frontend build and delivery systems, including optimizing bundlers (Webpack/RSpack) and setting up/maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Github Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI).
- 7+ years of professional experience recommended in relevant frontend platform engineering roles.
The Interview Process
Carta follows a standard tech startup interview process, where you will meet with a recruiter and hiring manager first. We’ll then ask you to show off your skills with a real-world take home exercise (we do not do LeetCode-style interviews, no one will quiz you on writing a doubly-linked list) and virtual interviews. During the process, you can ask questions to people across different parts of the Frontend Platoform team to learn what kind of work we do and how it lines up with your interests.
