Materials Management Supervisor
As a Materials Management Supervisor, you will lead Castelion's Materials Management organization, encompassing Inventory, Shipping, and Receiving, and own day-to-day execution across these functions. Your team will be responsible for receiving, inventory control, shipping, staging, kitting, production inventory transfers, and the timely movement of material across the company.
This is a people-leadership role that requires strong operational judgment. You will set priorities and expectations, develop your team, drive accountability, and build scalable processes while remaining close enough to the operation to remove roadblocks and respond to critical production needs.
The right person brings proven leadership experience, strong manufacturing and inventory-management fundamentals, and the ability to build structure in a fast-paced environment where priorities and processes continue to evolve.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop the Materials Management team across Inventory, Shipping, and Receiving, establishing clear expectations for safety, quality, urgency, inventory accuracy, customer service, and execution.
- Own daily Materials Management operations across receiving, inventory control, shipping, putaway, material movement, staging, kitting, replenishment, and production support.
- Set team priorities and performance goals, allocate resources, provide feedback, address performance gaps, and identify staffing and development needs as the organization scales.
- Own the timely and accurate movement of material across Castelion, including inbound receipts, production inventory transfers, intersite transfers, and outbound shipments.
- Develop and maintain standard work, operating procedures, and scalable processes across Materials Management.
- Establish and monitor KPIs for inventory accuracy, receiving and shipping performance, material availability, transaction accuracy, cycle counts, and transfer execution.
- Maintain accurate physical and systematic inventory and ensure material movements are promptly reflected in Castelion's ERP/MES systems.
- Own cycle counting, inventory reconciliation, discrepancy investigation, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Ensure disciplined inventory-control and traceability practices, including location control, FIFO, lot, serial, and shelf-life requirements.
- Own shipping and receiving execution, including prioritization, packaging, documentation, carrier coordination, inbound processing, tracking, and on-time performance.
- Partner with Production and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure material is staged, transferred, and available in alignment with production priorities.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain, Planning, Quality, Engineering, and Production to resolve shortages, discrepancies, nonconforming material, transportation constraints, and other material risks.
- Identify and eliminate bottlenecks across receiving, storage, picking, staging, kitting, shipping, and material movement.
- Develop warehouse layouts, storage strategies, point-of-use inventory, replenishment methods, and material-flow processes that support increasing production rates.
- Drive continuous improvement of ERP, MES, WMS, shipping, receiving, and inventory-management processes.
- Ensure proper control, storage, identification, segregation, packaging, and handling of high-value, sensitive, hazardous, and traceable materials.
- Maintain organized, safe, and audit-ready Materials Management areas and ensure compliance with applicable quality, export-control, government property, transportation, and company requirements.
- Identify staffing, equipment, space, transportation, and process requirements necessary to support production growth.
- Communicate material risks, team performance, operational constraints, and improvement priorities clearly to leadership.
- Remain actively engaged with frontline operations to remove roadblocks and support critical production requirements.
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in materials management, inventory control, warehouse operations, manufacturing logistics, shipping and receiving, or supply chain operations.
- 3+ years of direct people-management experience leading Materials Management, Inventory, Shipping, Receiving, Warehouse, Logistics, or Production teams.
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing operational teams, including setting expectations, managing performance, developing employees, and driving accountability.
- Experience leading operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with changing priorities and a high degree of autonomy.
- Strong understanding of receiving, inventory control, picking, kitting, shipping, material transfers, cycle counting, reconciliation, and material traceability.
- Experience managing high-value or highly traceable inventory and investigating inventory discrepancies through root cause and corrective action.
- Experience owning shipping, receiving, logistics, or material-transfer execution in support of manufacturing operations.
- Hands-on experience with ERP, MRP, MES, or WMS systems and a strong understanding of the relationship between physical material movement and system transactions.
- Experience developing standard work, operational processes, and performance metrics.
- Demonstrated ability to use operational data to identify problems, prioritize improvements, and drive results.
- Experience partnering across Production, Engineering, Quality, Planning, and Supply Chain to resolve material constraints and support production priorities.
- Strong operational judgment, organization, and written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work hands-on in warehouse and production environments and lift and move materials up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, operations, manufacturing, logistics, business administration, or a related field.
- Experience building or scaling Materials Management teams encompassing Inventory, Shipping, and Receiving in a rapidly growing organization.
- Experience in aerospace, defense, space, automotive, or other highly regulated advanced manufacturing environments.
- Experience supporting a transition from development or low-volume production to higher production rates.
- Experience managing supervisors, leads, or multiple operational functions.
- Experience implementing or significantly improving ERP, MES, WMS, or shipping-management systems.
- Experience with serialized, lot-controlled, shelf-life-controlled, hazardous, energetic, or otherwise controlled materials.
- Knowledge of AS9100, government property requirements, and inventory or quality audits.
- Experience designing warehouse layouts, storage systems, lineside inventory, point-of-use material, and replenishment processes.
- Experience with domestic and international shipping, freight, carrier management, and regulated or hazardous-material transportation.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, 5S, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience with production rate readiness, capacity planning, and material-flow optimization.
- Forklift certification and experience operating material-handling equipment.
- Active U.S. Government security clearance.
