Dimensional/Mechanical Inspector
The Dimensional/Mechanical Quality Inspector will support the manufacturing and assembly of precision mechanical components and structures for long-range hypersonic strike vehicles. This is an hourly, non-exempt position located in our Torrance facility. In this role, you will ensure mechanical parts and assemblies meet drawing, specification, and quality requirements throughout the production lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Perform receiving, in-process, and final inspection of machined parts, sheet metal, hardware, and mechanical assemblies
- Conduct dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other precision measurement tools
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and acceptance criteria
- Verify material certifications, traceability, and compliance documentation
- Perform visual inspection for workmanship, damage, cleanliness, and configuration accuracy
- Support first article inspections (FAI) in accordance with AS9102 requirements
- Document nonconformances clearly and work with manufacturing and engineering on resolution
- Maintain accurate inspection and acceptance records in accordance with the quality management system
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to inspection methods and defect reduction
- Assist with customer and government source inspections as required
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience inspecting mechanical or structural hardware in an aerospace or defense environment
- Strong proficiency reading and interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T
- Experience using common dimensional inspection tools
- Knowledge of mechanical workmanship standards and assembly practices
- High level of attention to detail and strong analytical skills
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience supporting R&D and early-stage production programs
- Prior involvement inspecting flight or mission-critical hardware
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable collaborating with machinists, assemblers, engineers, and quality personnel
- Ability to manage shifting priorities while maintaining inspection accuracy
- Familiarity with digital quality systems and inspection documentation
