Composites Technician
About the Role
Castelion is seeking a Composites Technician to support hands-on development and manufacturing across our composites organization.
This role will work closely with Manufacturing and Materials Engineering on R&D builds, process development, prototypes, and production using processes such as layup, filament winding, press molding, bonding, curing, trimming, and assembly. The ideal candidate is adaptable, technically curious, and comfortable working in an environment where processes are still being developed and improved.
Outcomes
- Execute R&D and production composite builds safely and consistently.
- Support development, testing, and maturation of new composite processes.
- Help transition successful development work into repeatable manufacturing.
- Maintain strong quality, documentation, and shop readiness standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform composite layup, filament winding support, press molding, bonding, curing, trimming, and assembly.
- Support prototype builds, process trials, experiments, and manufacturing development.
- Prepare materials, tooling, consumables, and equipment for builds.
- Work closely with engineers to troubleshoot processes and incorporate changes.
- Follow drawings, work instructions, and test plans while documenting build results and observations.
- Identify process and quality issues and support continuous improvement.
- Maintain clean, organized, production-ready work areas.
Basic Qualifications
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in composites, aerospace manufacturing, R&D, or a similar technical environment.
- Experience with composite fabrication or related manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read drawings and follow detailed technical instructions.
- Comfortable working with evolving processes and development hardware.
- Strong attention to detail, safety, quality, and documentation.
- Ability to work effectively with engineers and other technicians.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with layup, vacuum bagging, filament winding, press molding, bonding, or cure processes.
- Experience supporting R&D, prototype, or new process development.
- Experience with aerospace composite structures.
- Experience transitioning development work into production.
