Director, Product Management - Data
Why you’re here:
At CB Insights, our mission is to create insight for all.
We provide the world’s leading enterprises and most ambitious investors with instant insights to bet on the right markets, stay ahead of competitors, and source the right companies.
We have aggregated over one trillion data points and counting to build the world’s most comprehensive and trusted business graph. We use our AI to generate insights like profiles, analysis, and reports. And we deliver data and insights through a web terminal, mobile app, browser extension, API platform, and native integrations with Salesforce and Microsoft Copilot.
Together with data operations, engineering, and design, our product team focuses relentlessly on solving customer problems. We set a furious pace, launching new capabilities every month. And we embrace AI creatively to execute and automate our work.
We’re building something amazing. Come join us.
What you’ll do
You will lead the product development organization focused on building our business graph.
You will define and execute the roadmap for what datasets we acquire and why, how we structure those datasets, what tools we build for our operations teams to that data, and what proprietary data science products we build on top of that data.
To do this, you will:
- Lead 3 product managers spanning data acquisition and data science
- Work closely with the Senior Director of Data Operations and the Director of Data Science & Engineering to lead the cross-functional data organizations
- Discover and prioritize customer problems using qualitative (interviews, user testing), quantitative (usage analysis, experimentation), and competitive analysis
- Coach PMs to shape new initiatives by working backwards from the customer experience. Articulate, defend, and develop your point of view with C-level stakeholders
- Oversee the execution of new initiatives to ensure extreme focus, top speed, and rigorous quality
- Get your hands dirty on everything from QA to data labeling to prompt engineering. You go and see with your own eyes
- Frame positioning and propose pricing & packaging. Work with marketing and enablement to equip GTM. Present internally and with customers.
- Define, report on, and deliver improvements in data coverage, quality, freshness, and differentiation
What to demonstrate
- Extreme customer empathy. You are endlessly curious about customers: their needs, desires, fears, and work. You reveal real problems through incisive interviewing and intuition.
- Clarity of thought. You create order from chaos. You structure ambiguous problems and undefined spaces for everyone around you. You focus on the essential issues. You simplify.
- Speed. You are impatient and relentless. You anticipate and crush blockers. You use process insofar as it’s useful for the task at hand or building scalable systems; otherwise you discard it.
- Executive presence. You can take the heat from the CEO. You make customers and colleagues big fans. You answer questions directly and give facts rather than sell.
- Leadership. You are resilient in the face of adversity. You create energy and context for your team. You’re a compelling storyteller. Other people want to work with you. You help others.
- Technical fluency. You learn concepts so you can enable and (where appropriate) push engineers. You live and breathe AI in your everyday life. You discover and test new products.
- Been there, done that. You’ve shipped new data products end-to-end that customers love–and you can prove it with data.
- Growth. You’ve been promoted through the product organization multiple times in data environments, and you’ve managed product managers before.
Please note this is a US-based role.
In addition to base salary, this role is also eligible for a bonus opportunity.

CB Insights Leadership Principles
At CB Insights, everyone is expected to be a leader. These leadership principles are like an operating system for our culture. Use the principles as a practical guide to making decisions.
We are what we repeatedly do. By living the principles outlined below, we will build an outstanding company and do insanely great work.
- Solve customer problems. It’s our highest calling. Designing a product? Start from the customer problem it solves. Updating our sales process? Flip it around, and simplify the customer buying process.
- Think BIG! Start small. Great changes start with a first step. Find it. Take it. Build a system around what works. This is the secret to bringing a vision to life.
- Go and see with your own eyes. Meet the customer, use the product, talk to the field. Great systems aren’t built from afar.
- Priorities: Choose one. Leaders give the gift of clarity. They find the most important thing and do it. Max power. Top speed.
- Danger zones:
- Bureaucracy. May the best ideas and execution win.
- Complexity. Leaders use frameworks and systems to simplify.
- No commitment. Leaders don’t compromise just to get along. Debate. Disagree. But once a decision is made, commit.
- Leaving what’s important unsaid or undone. No “circling back.”
- Data informs. Insight transforms. Pull the thread. Ask why. Leaders are curious. They use what they learn to create clarity.
- Insist on excellence. Leaders set high standards and overcome obstacles. They do the kind of work they’re excited to share with the world.
- Live off the land. Leaders creatively use resources already available to them – especially AI – to execute and automate their work.
- Good judgment. Leaders have it. Where it comes from: insight, listening, first-hand experience. How to apply it: carefully on big, hard to reverse decisions. Swiftly on limited, easy to reverse ones.
- Help others. Leaders know we’re building this together.
