Senior Backend Engineer

Remote - USA

Base is planning to bring a million developers and a billion users onchain. We need your help to make that happen.

At Base, we live by our Stay Based values: we do the right thing, work hard, stay optimistic, prioritize the team, and push creative boundaries—all while building the future of onchain. We value a Zone 3+ work ethic, where our team rises to the challenge, embraces hard weeks, and makes small to significant personal tradeoffs when necessary to drive impact and innovation.

Base is built on Optimism’s open-source OP Stack. We’re joining as the second Core Dev team working on the OP Stack to ensure it’s a public good available to everyone; and contributing a portion of sequencer revenue to funding public goods.

We are looking for a strong Senior Backend Software Engineer to join the Wallet team to enable and accelerate the success of Base. Coinbase Wallet is on a mission to bring the next billion users onchain. Enabling creators to earn, surfacing onchain UGC content, making payments as easy as a tap, messaging your friends in group chats, and trading crypto – are all just the start of the next consumer app to unlock innovation, creativity, and freedom for everyone.

What you'll be doing:

  • Building and maintaining backend Golang systems that power the Wallet and apps built on Base
  • Working with Kubernetes and Cloud services to automate and maintain critical blockchain infrastructure
  • Engaging in research and prototyping of groundbreaking ideas to improve efficiency and scalability of blockchain clients

What we look for in you:

  • You have at least 5 years of experience in software engineering or systems engineering
  • You've developed and shipped features of core backend systems at massive scale
  • You’re familiar with current trends and best practices in infrastructure and systems design
  • You write high quality, well tested and maintainable code

Nice to haves:

  • You’re comfortable with Golang, Geth, Foundry, Solidity, or other crypto tools
  • You have contributed to open source crypto projects, for example OP Stack contributions or Base contributions
  • You’ve familiar with Kubernetes or cloud providers such as AWS or GCP
  • Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with onchain activity such as interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services.
