About the Opportunity

Are you passionate about tackling climate challenges and driving sustainability solutions? As a Strategic Energy Management Associate, in the Climate Corps Fellowship program, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to impactful sustainability initiatives with Alternative Energy Systems Consulting, Inc. This position operates on a hybrid work schedule for those located in Portland; however, this position is open to candidates anywhere in Oregon for remote work. 

In this role, you’ll provide technical and non-technical support for a variety of energy efficiency programs in the Portland office. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and assertiveness to ensure internal teammates and external clients are attentive to priorities. Experience with energy efficiency in buildings is a plus. We seek candidates who are versatile in their approaches to problem-solving and are resilient when faced with new challenges. In your fellowship with AESC, you will learn how one of the country's first and most innovative Strategic Energy Management (SEM) programs works. What You’ll Do

  • Track deliverables, milestones, and communicate status/actions to fellow team members.
  • Schedule team meetings, organize tasks/deliverables, and contribute to strategic planning efforts.
  • Provide delivery teams with logistics support such as procuring engineering equipment and coordinating site activities.
  • Manage the logistics of virtual meetings and workshops by being the session gatekeeper.
  • Interact closely with coworkers to meet project deadlines and budgets.
  • Energy coaching, engineering support, training cohorts, and energy savings modeling.
  • Help participants obtain incentive dollars from the Energy Trust of Oregon.

What We’re Looking For

  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication.
  • Experience in delivering communication to key clients and customers.
  • Ability to interact with clients in a professional and responsive manner.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong capabilities with office-based software tools including MS Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.
  • Strong capabilities with virtual meeting platforms (e.g. Zoom, Teams.). 
  • A college degree is preferred but not required. 
  • Coursework or related experience in environmental fields (e.g., internships, volunteer work) is preferred.
  • A demonstrated commitment to addressing racism and advancing racial equity, both within team dynamics and programmatically.
  • Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of the fellowship (SEI is unable to sponsor visas).
  • May require occasional moving about to accomplish tasks, moving from one worksite to another, or adjusting or moving objects under 25-50 pounds in all directions.
  • Must reside in Oregon and if residing in Portland, the ability to work on a hybrid schedule (3 days in the office and 2 days remote).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with energy efficiency in buildings.
  • Understanding gas and electric utilities and demand-side management strategies.
  • Project Management experience.
  • An understanding of gas and electric utilities and Demand Side Management in Oregon.
  • Client & Customer Service experience.
  • Experience using Smartsheet, SharePoint, and OneNote.
