Are you passionate about tackling climate challenges and driving sustainability solutions? As an Energy Specialist, in the Climate Corps Fellowship program, you’ll have the opportunity to troubleshoot HVAC systems to Clean Buildings Performance Standards compliance work with Sumner-Bonney Lake School District. This is an on-site position with the expectation of onsite work 5 days per week.
This position requires the employee to be physically located within commuting distance of Boney Lake, WA at the time of hire. Only candidates currently residing within commuting distance of the onsite location will be considered.
The Energy Specialist Fellow is responsible for liaising with our HVAC team and is a valued resource for our building custodians. Together, this ensures that our systems function optimally. In addition, the Energy Specialist is immersed in the systems that support Clean Building Performance Standards (CBPS) reporting and compliance. Day-to-day interaction with our consultants and partners is a pivotal experience for our Fellows as well. The Energy Specialist Fellow will become an integral part of the Sumner-Bonney Lake team and work together to ensure healthy, safe, and efficient environments for teachers and students. As stewards of public dollars, Sumner-Bonney Lake School District team is vigilant to ensure fiscal responsibility, and the Energy Specialist plays a vital role. From troubleshooting HVAC systems to Clean Buildings Performance Standards compliance work, this role provides real-world experience and valuable skill sets that translate into employability.
Projects you will be working on include:
- The Fellow will be supporting the district as we develop and construct facility improvements to reduce EUIs in most of our school buildings.
- Lighting improvements and re-commissioning in buildings from 50,000 square feet to over 200,000 square feet.
- User-focused conservation efforts, including a new system to track and administer permissions relating to personal appliances.

What You’ll Do
- Energy Star Portfolio Manager - data entry, quality control, and reporting.
- PowerBI Energy Dashboard.
- CBPS Compliance Documentation - preparation and editing.
- Building Automation System Monitoring, Auditing, and Scheduling.
What We’re Looking For
- Related experience in fields related to energy efficiency, renewable energy, or data analysis.
- Ability to work independently and carry out assignments, make independent judgments and/or decisions, and discern when action at a higher level is required.
- Must be able to effectively manage multiple projects and maintain an organized and well-communicated workflow.
- Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation to be available on-site 5 days per week.
- A college degree is preferred
- The ability to work onsite on a full-time basis.
- Coursework or related experience in environmental fields (e.g., internships, volunteer work) is preferred.
- Commitment to a fair workplace that honors the experiences, voices, viewpoints, and values of all individuals.
- Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of the fellowship (SEI is unable to sponsor visas).
- May require occasional moving about to accomplish tasks, moving from one worksite to another, or adjusting or moving objects under 25-50 pounds in all directions.
