Are you passionate about advancing public education, environmental sustainability, and developing the sustainability workforce of the future? As a Program Coordinator in the Climate Corps Fellowship program, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to impactful climate education initiatives with Climate Action Pathways for Schools.
This is a hybrid position with the expectation of remote work 3-4 days a week and travel to school programs 1-2 days a week. Fellows will be expected to travel around 1 day/week to a Bay Area city where Climate Action Pathways for Schools has programs. There may be up to 2 weekend events during the fellowship. This position requires the employee to be physically located within commuting distance of Oakland, CA, at the time of hire. Only candidates currently residing within commuting distance of the onsite location will be considered.
The CAPS Program Coordinator will be part of the implementation and continued development of our ambitious climate action program for school districts (working with high school students) in California and the San Francisco Bay Area. CAPS programs encompass the following key areas of school operations and culture: building decarbonization, clean transportation, zero waste, water conservation, and sustainable food systems.
Projects you will be working on include:
- Work in 3-4 school districts with the Program Manager to develop and implement high school internship programs.
- Each program has 2-3 projects that may include conducting energy audits and recommendations to support building decarbonization projects, implementing waste reduction programs in middle schools, and conducting community engagement and education events.

About Our Partner: Climate Action Pathways for Schools
Climate Action Pathways for Schools (CAPS) is an innovative and growing California-based nonprofit organization. We provide a workforce development program that prepares students for college and career opportunities in environmental sustainability. CAPS students work with their school district to develop and implement climate action projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save money. CAPS primarily serves public schools in communities impacted by environmental injustices and facing systemic barriers to employment in the green economy.

What You’ll Do
- Support CAPS work-based learning programs for school districts in California.
- Recruit and support the selection of high school students to participate in the program and provide orientation and ongoing training to student interns to help them build knowledge and skills necessary to develop and implement climate action projects in their school districts and prepare for future sustainability careers.
- Supervise and monitor students' experiences in CAPS programs, assess skill development, provide mentorship and support, and ensure interns’ learning and success.
- Work with the Program Manager in the implementation of district climate action plans for school districts.
- Collaborate with experts, local community stakeholders, the district’s key personnel and staff, and school communities to gather input and data to help inform the design of each district’s climate action plans.
- Guide interns to monitor and track sustainability data for school districts.
- Gather and interpret data on the district’s electricity, natural gas, and other measures that are relevant to reducing greenhouse gas emissions; b. Utilize data to create graphs, graphics, presentations, and reports that articulate recommendations on greenhouse gas reductions.
What We’re Looking For
- Demonstrated commitment to the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and antiracists values and practices.
- Skilled educator with experience delivering results in workforce development; experience in green careers, climate action, environmental sustainability, or environmental justice.
- Outstanding project manager with experience planning, tracking, and reporting on the performance of multiple ongoing projects.
- Excellent data analysis skills with the ability to distill disparate and complex data sets into tangible recommendations.
- Proven ability to facilitate, manage, collaborate, and communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including students, district administrators, curriculum and instruction personnel, and facilities staff.
- Proficiency with Google Docs and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Have a valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
- A college degree, coursework, or related experience in environmental fields (e.g., internships, volunteer work) is preferred.
- The ability to work onsite on a hybrid basis.

- Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of the fellowship (SEI is unable to sponsor visas).
- May require occasional moving about to accomplish tasks, moving from one worksite to another, or adjusting or moving objects under 25-50 pounds in all directions.
