Length of Fellowship: 10 months
Are you passionate about tackling climate challenges and driving sustainability solutions? As a Climate Fellow in the Climate Corps Fellowship program, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to impactful climate resiliency & sustainability initiatives with the City of Mountain View.
This is a hybrid position with the expectation of onsite work 2 days per week and remote work 3 days per week. This fellowship includes outreach and engagement events on occasional evenings and weekends. This position requires the employee to be physically located within commuting distance of Mountain View, CA, at the time of hire. Only candidates currently residing within commuting distance of the onsite location will be considered.
As part of the City’s Sustainability and Resiliency Division, this Climate Corps Fellow will support the City’s educational outreach campaign, Year of the Water Heater, encouraging residents to switch from gas to electric heat pump water heaters. The Fellow will develop print and online outreach materials, engage with community members, and develop a streaming advertising campaign using “social marketing” strategies. Quantitative skills will also be used to analyze survey results as well as end-of-program impact results. Join the team as we work toward decarbonization!

The City of Mountain View engages with residents, businesses, and municipal staff to collaboratively develop and implement sustainability policies and programs. The mission of the City's Sustainability and Resiliency Division is to reduce carbon emissions and to prepare the community for climate change impacts. The Division implements programs in several areas, such as climate planning, community engagement, building decarbonization, transportation decarbonization, and plant-based eating. What You’ll Do
- Develop outreach and educational materials on electrification, including handouts, postcards, social media posts, website content, and a paid audio and video advertising campaign.
- Promote Year of the Water Heater and its mascot Wattson at in-person City events, including its Earth Day Celebration and community events.
- Engage with Mountain View residents in person to encourage adoption of heat pump water heaters and spread awareness.
- Support the City’s Earth Day and Arbor Day event planning.
- Conduct and analyze a survey on the City’s current fleet of water heaters and analyze end-of-program results from the Year of the Water Heater campaign.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in community engagement campaigns, especially for frontline and disadvantaged communities.
- Proficiency in designing flyers and social media content using Canva.
- Strong planning and hosting skills for large community events.
- Excellent writing skills for outreach materials and formal reports.
- Solid research and data analysis skills, including proficiency in Excel.
- Experience working with diverse audiences, including residents, businesses, and community organizations.
- A college degree, coursework, or related experience in environmental fields is preferred.
- The ability to work onsite on a hybrid basis. Onsite work 2 days per week and remote work 3 days per week. This fellowship includes outreach and engagement events on occasional evenings and weekends.

- Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of the fellowship (SEI is unable to sponsor visas).
- May require occasional moving about to accomplish tasks, moving from one worksite to another, or adjusting or moving objects under 25-50 pounds in all directions.
